Amsterdam Hotel Help
Visiting Amsterdam for 4 nights March 2 with our adult son. Reserving a triple room to save $$. Narrowed down to Hotel Estherea and Canal House for best rates. Would appreciate any comments to help us choose, such as location as I'm told it will be cold. Thanks for all the info. posted.

My infor isn't all that recent (March '00), but we stayed in the Estherea at the time with our 2 kids. We also looked into the Canal House but it did ot have a quad available.
We liked the Estherea. The room was large, and the location was great. Lots of restaurants nearby. Amsterdam is compact, so lots is walkable, but there are also trams. We had one rainy damp day while we visited. We took the canal boat tour that day. |
I don't know if the Hotel Weichmann has triples or quads, but has the most ideal location. If you get
a canal view (the hotel is on a corner), then if the weather is not great, you can open your windows with tiny balcony and be "sitting" at an outdoor cafe. In March, you should be able to get off season rates. This hotel has gone up in price, but has not updated much. It is however, considerably less than the Canal House. We have stayed there many times over the past thirty years. Same family stills runs it. |
Hi
I'm not sure that either of those hotels has an elevator. You may already have checked that out; just thought I'd mention it. |
Estherea does indeed have an elvator albeit a small one. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Your children (and you) will appreciate the hot chocolate machine in the lobby -free!

I have stayed several times at the Canal House - it does have an elevator although there may be stairs involved as well. Great area, really like the hotel. There is alot to do in Amsterdam even if the weather is not great - for other posters, do many places in Amsterdam make use of the outdoor heaters like they do in Paris? A true pleasure in Amsterdam is sitting canalside, watching the boats, pedestrains and bikers. Enjoy!

thanks for the confirmations on the hotels having elevators.
