Amsterdam hotel help!

I am looking for a quiet nice hotel in Amsterdam, close to "things to see" in the $70 - $100 US range. I have searched this forum but only see suggestions on $150 per night ones and others have links that do not work. Please help!!!

Sherri Apr 13th, 2002 05:58 PM

I stayed at the Amstel Botel which is a hotel actually in a boat. It is near the train station so is not very close to the sights but is definately within your budget and is a nice place to stay. We found it in Rick Steves. Get a view of the water.

Thanks Sherri, I just looked into it and they are fully booked for next weekend, any other ideas????

Stayed in the Hotel Ambassade a couple years ago -- very fun and great atmosphere. Hotel full of character. Will be there again in June - can't wait! Should be in your price range -- good luck!
Try the Hotel Filosoof -email at:[email protected] Its on the backside of Vondelpark, nice tight rooms with all basic amenities and a very nice staff and breakfast rooms. It is 10-15 min walk to the action but Amsterdam is a city you can get around easily in--we walked most everywhere.
Your price range will best be found in the Rick Steves guides--which are all very acceptable with local character. I've stayed at the higher priced ones and they aren't as much fun! Cheers!

Amanda, I too love the Ambassade, but Taylor is looking for something in the $70 -100 US range. The doubles at the Ambassade start at 189Euros with tax and no breakfast, or 217 Euros with breakfast. I think that's more than double what she is looking for. Did you get a deal some how???

Taylor Apr 13th, 2002 06:43 PM

Thanks Amanda, as Patrick just mentioned I just looked into the Ambassade and it is WAY out of our price range. Thanks for the thought though!

WOW! Guess we were lucky - sent a fax requesting on 2 rooms and got a quote back of a little over 100 each!

We have had a LOT of great luck with sending faxes requesting rates -- most of the time 1/3 to 1/2 off listed rates.

Sorry for the misinformation!! Good Luck!

Patrick Apr 13th, 2002 07:21 PM

Amanda, that is amazing. When are you staying there? You are actually getting two rooms (doubles?) for around $100 US? I always fax or email them directly myself -- have stayed there several times, but never found any discount at all. We reserved two rooms also for this June -- did it in November -- but still paying $189 Euros per room with the tax. You're sure you're talking about The Ambassade???

I have booked a canal view, double bedded room (???) for single occupant, for 4 nights in mid September at 152euro + tax, at the Ambassade.

Taylor-
Try www.eurocheapo.com, that's where I went to book my hotel, nothing in there is above $120, 2 and 3 star hotels only, great website, they tell it pretty true to some hotels I've stayed in Paris, so I trust them for Amsterdam too. good luck!

the Canal House Hotel on Keizersgracht 148 is charming; in your price range; quiet; old canal houses with lovely breakfast room. Feels like staying in a large private home. Good for those who love to walk along those gorgeous canals. email:
[email protected]

go od luck.

what a fabulous city it is. go to the Kukenhof Gardens, a must; but you probably already know that. an easy train ride from Central Station, which is also an easy walk from this little hotel.
ompuserve.com

Last May, we stayed here:

Hotel Acro
Jan Luijkenstraat 44
tel: (020) 66-25538
fax: (020) 675-0811
www.acro-hotel.nl
email: [email protected]

We paid approx $78/night, plus 5% surcharge for using credit card. Rate included buffet breakfast and taxes. The rooms there are small but spotless and very well appointed (color tv w/remote, phone, hairdryer, lots of hooks, shelves, mirror). There's also an elevator.

The Acro is about a block from the Rikjsmuseum and in a very good/quiet location. We'd definitely stay there again. (Oh, I almost forgot, we found this hotel in Frommer's Budget Travel magazine, it was listed as one of his recommended budget hotels.) If you do a search on Acro, you'll probably find a few other posts recommending it.

Good luck!
Sandy
Taylor- I'm off to Amsterdam tomorrow and will be staying at the bridge hotel for 85 Euros per. It includes breakfast and is located on the Amstel river near the skinny bridge. It is also located close to two Metro stations. From what I have heard it is quiet and the owners are very helpful. The email address is bridgehotel.nl. It will show rates and rooms. Good Luck.

Thanks for your suggestions, it seems that a lot of places are booked. Any other suggestions, looking for anything central and at a good rate, thanks!

gretchen Apr 15th, 2002 10:45 AM

Having stayed at the Ambassade many times, and having a good friend who works there who could never get me a special rate, I suspect that Amanda has made a mistake in her price quotes. Patrick and Pauline are more likely to be correct, with Pauline getting the special deal as it is for single occupancy.

Try
http://www.hotelprinsenhof.com

We stayed at the Hotel Prinsenhof last May & enjoyed it very much. It has a tram stop at the corner (3 house down) and is very close to Leidseplein. The double rate quoted currently is $80EURO ($70.33 US) with a bath.

In the entire time we spent there (4 days) the only bad thing I can say about it is they don't have an elevator & they do have VERY steep stairs. We had a beautiful view of the canal from our window.

Oh the memories......
