Amsterdam hotel for single girl travelling with a couple

I will be in Amsterdam March 22-26 with my travel mates - a couple. We are all on a budget so getting two rooms may not be the best choice for our wallets. However, sleeping in a double bed with a couple poses some challenges. Do the hotels in Amsterdam provide roll-out beds at request? Or are there rooms that include a single bed and a double for a reasonable price? What, in your opinion, is the best option for us?
Thanks for your help!

You'll have to specifically book a triple room.

Here are a few budget possibilities:
http://www.hotelprinsenhof.com/
http://www.bookings.org/hotel/nl/veteran.html
http://www.sanluchesio.nl/ (this is a monastic hotel, but might work out best in allowing you to get two separate room)

I haven't stayed in these, as we stayed in a Best Western on our trip. But if I'm unable to get such a good rate as I did before, I'm considering these for a future trip.

You might also consider a hostel where your friends get a private room, and you stay in a dorm.

Thank you, I appreciate your help!

I've looked at some VRBO apartments for Amsterdam for your next trip. You may want to check and see where apartments have a bedroom and a pull out bed in a living room. Cheaper more comfortable than two hotel rooms.

Hi Lola--I'll be there March 24-28 with a travel partner at that time too. How old are you guys? By the way, if you go to: bookings.com, you can search by room size and price. That makes it easy to search. We found our hotel through a Rick Steve's book, then I researched it online, read reviews, etc. I too am traveling on a major budget.

I went to Amsterdam with two friends and we went to the "Hotel Terminus", which seems to have rooms of many permutations! We had a room with three singles but I'm sure they would do a double and a single (or you could push two singles together). We were on a tight budget too and found this ok as long as you don't mind being by the redlight district. It didn't bother us. The hotel was ok, basic but clean.
Ah, I just looked at Trip Advisor on it and there is post there from someone who had a triple room with a double and a single bed, so they do do them.

We've stayed at the Hotel Estherea right on the Singel Canal, I think it is. They have many room options. We stayed in a room with a double bed as well as another double murphy bed. Nice looking hotel in a convenient area within walking distance of Anne Frank Huis.

We loved the Hotel Residence le Coin last June. They have kitchenettes in each room, and the rooms are large. We had two rooms, connected, for our family of four. Each room had two twin beds, which are pushed together for a couple to use. They also offer a variety of bedding types, so it's worth looking into. It's in a great location. Go to their website-- http://www.hotel-bookings.nl/coin.html -- and e-mail them directly, they are very responsive and helpful.
Here's my trip report:
We stayed in a fabulous location, at The Hotel Residence le Coin, which was directly across a small street from the Hotel de l’Europe, down the street from the Hotel Doelan, on Nieuwe Doelenstraat (sp?). A great neighborhood in the heart of old Amsterdam.

The hotel has a lift and A/C, also free use of the hotel’s washing machine and clothes dryer in the basement (which was welcome as we’d been traveling over a week when we arrived there). Each room has a little kitchenette, a nice-sized bath, large rooms with wooden floors and a sitting area. It’s fairly new, so everything sparkles. Very friendly front desk, too.

Two cafes on the same block as the hotel were wonderful: Café Katoen for a university atmosphere, and Café de Jaren, for great table seating on the canal.

Amazing dinners at two restaurants in particular:
“Stout!”, at Haarlemmerstraat 73 (www.restaurantstout.nl). Fabulous ‘foamy asparagus’ soup with shrimp, chateaubriande, fresh fish, dessert course, wine list. Very trendy lighting. Great service. We’d gone to the neighborhood in search of a restaurant called “Lof” which we’d seen written up. We didn’t like its atmosphere, but were lucky that Stout! was just across the street.

Also at “Restaurant Dining Eleven” we had a great dinner. It’s at Reestraat 11. Also trendy and contempory, well-presented and beautifully-served meal.

Another nice dinner at “frenzi”, at Swanenburgwal 232. Very simple and contemporary. We arrived shortly after 10:00p.m., when most restaurants close in Amsterdam, and persuaded the owner to sell us any left-overs they had in the kitchen! They put together a nice Caesar salad with cooked-in-the-shell shrimp and mango. Very nice.

Also a good brunch at a place across the street from frenzi—called “Puccini”. Creative salads and sandwiches. Very nice also.

We took a canal cruise one evening. Toured the Anne Frank Huis and the Van Gogh Museum. Visited the Nieuwe Kerk (sp?) Our teens went to a concert at the Paradiso and loved it.

One afternoon we did the 2:30 “Best of Holland” excursion to Volendam and Marken, with a stop to see wooden clogs made, Gouda cheese created, and to visit windmills. It was by bus, with a boat from Volendam to Marken. A lot of fun. Even our two teens liked it.

Our teens also liked shopping at one street in particular, between our hotel and the museum district. Also a Zara shop there, and many others like it. They thought the selection and prices were better in Amsterdam than what they’d seen in London and Paris even.

A detail about Amsterdam if you go there-- carry enough Euros in cash, because many places won't accept a credit card for a 'small' purchase (i.e. under 25 EU).
