she's already booked a room people :-)
"I did in fact finally decide and book a hotel ... I chose the Hotel Brouwer" |
It sounds like you made a good choice. Have a great trip!
|
Yep !
The good thing in Amsterdam is that you don't have to bother learning dutch, they all speak english. They even answer me in english when I speak flemish, which irrates me quite a lot :-) Anyway hello is 'goeie morgen' Shew ye mor chen' in morning, 'goeie namidag' in afternoon. Thanks is 'dank u wel' or 'danke' like in german. Beer is 'bier' - very easy. Refuse dutch beers, they are not good, take belgian beers only. Have a nice trip !!! |
riberia sorry I do know exactly how it works.. I am trying to explain to you how an OWNER could plant a review.
How does booking.com know when you have completed a stay. The owner is responsible for letting them know. If a dishonest owner wanted to plant a review he could do so by saying "yes, this guest checked in ". da da.. |

The invitation to review the hotel comes from booking.com.
|
justine: I think manipulating reviews on booking.com would be highly unlikely and almost impossible. I've had 6 or 8 published on the site and they were ALL requested by booking.com and then there is a delay between one submitting the review and it being published.
Say I didn't show up -- the owner could not submit a review on my behalf since booking.com uses MY e-mail address. |
****da da.. as for the fee.. its nominal.***
As I list on Booking I can assure you it is not nominal. And a no show has to be notified quickly or we get charged the commission. The person who has not shown up receives information about that from Booking.com. |
Re a no show. In April I was stuck in Brugge for an extra night due to country-wide transport strike. I had contacted my next hotel in Stavelot a few days ahead that IF the strike went ahead and I didn't show up the first night I still wanted the subsequent two nights and that I'd understand if I still had to pay for the full 3 nights.
One owner e-mailed back 'no problem' and we could work out something re reducing the first night room rate. But the other owner didn't know about that exchange and while in Brugge I got an e-mail from booking.com saying I was a no show. Took three e-mails back and forth hotel/booking/moi to straighten it out. . . . Owners do not plant reviews nor fake reviews from no-show guests . . . |
No.. I mean.. the "guest" is not a guest.. its owners friend .. they are not a no show.. because there was never any intention for them to show. The hotel owner confirms with booking.com that the "guest" showed up and paid.. the "guest" then receives the email invitation to review the hotel, the "guest" then submits a review.
|
I'd think the odds of that are so infinitesimally small that it would be crazy to worry about it.
Not like TA where fake reviews are a widespread problem. |
bangs head on wall!!!
|
Please continue banging. It may help.
I have written many hotel reviews on ta.. and have booked at least 20 hotels using the reviews for research .. I READ them.. and anyone who properly reads the reviews can definitely get a great sense of the hotel they choose. I would never book a hotel without using the reviews TA.. and I am not a plant for them dears. I guess those that get fooled by plant reviews are a bit slow on the uptake.. because the few times I have seen a fake review I had no trouble spotting it. Of course some folks prefer to only use booking sites when booking hotels.. I DO use them.. but most often like to contact hotels directly and deal with them. Plus booking.com and the like do not include many of the great smaller family hotels I have used in past.. and there are so many more choices out there then hotels that use those listing sites.. that's one reason forums are great help, getting names of hotels from those who have stayed as such places.. |
Hello Justine,
Nobody is saying you can't read reviews :-) We all know (or should know) that you're an experience traveller. What we say is that it is less likely that an owner plants fake reviews on booking.com than on TA. Your scenario is possible but involves complications that you don't find on TA. As for reviews, you know how to read those reviews and eliminate most fakes (first time posters who 'wow' a place, general comments 'I love this restaurant, everything is so good, and the owner is very nice' etc.) Perso I use TA and booking reviews but don't look too much into the 'score': -With TA I've seen stupid reviews with everything ok but OP doesn't like the area of Chateau Rouge, so puts the worst note... -with Booking or Hotels, review gets score according to loaction etc so score doesn't mean much you've got to read inside the comments. However very bad score usually means very bad hotel. I have personnaly no time to call hotels - only (et encore) when on holiday. I just book too often hotels - so booking.com or hotels.com are perfect for me. |
Hi, I found a triple in Amsterdam that appears to be very nice. Had good reviews also, and is close to the Van Gogh Museum. The rates were excellent. You can check them out on Tripadvisor also. It's called The Amadi Park Hotel.
Address: Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat 26-G, 1054 BR Amsterdam, Netherlands Phone:+31 20 308 0570 I'm booked there next month, and from the photos and reviews, looks very nice, and extremely reasonable. I booked a triple room, which is a King Bed and a Single Bed. Hope this helps ! :) |
welcome to the forum pokergirl.
The Amadi Park Hotel. on booking is a score of only 7.9 http://goo.gl/TAEa67 No prices for next year but this year they seem to be out of the OPs price range. The listing on TA http://goo.gl/nHqb14 Score on TA is a bit higher. One can book this hotel via several websites. |
Hi Pokergirl.. I looked at that hotel on link via hotels.com but they are obviously not booking that far ahead because they are listing no availabities at all for month of May.. then found their website , same thing. The prices for the next month or so looked good though.. let us know how it was after your visit!
