Amsterdam - Hotel Brouwer - too good to be true?

After quite a bit of looking for a relatively inexpensive centrally located Amsterdam hotel for next March I came across this one. I had not been finding much at all for under 100 euro for a single with bath in a central location, and the few I did find were all booked already. Then I found this one - on a canal with a canal view, walking distance from Dam Square but not on it, only 50euro including private bath and breakfast. It sounds too good to be true. Anyone actually stayed there? Also, they take reservations without needing a deposit or credit card number. That scares me a little. I've not come across places that don't want something to hold the reservation. What have your experiences been?

hi isabel

Looks like you've made a good choice. Take a look at the reviews here:-

Try www.Priceline.com. I got the Meridien and the Marriott in Amsterdam, both 4* hotels, for $78 and $75 US respectively for October.

Good Luck.

Ross. :-)

We stayed at the Brouwer for a week in 2001 and were very happy. Good bathroom, comfortable bed, wavy floor, elevator. Our only complaint was that breadfast eggs were served exactly the same every morning. Maybe if you asked they would fry one for you.

I have heard great things about Hotel Brouwer as well. It was booked solid when I visited Amsterdam. Our 2nd choice was the lovely Hotel Keizershof. http://www.hotelkeizershof.nl/
We stayed at Keizershof for 5 nights. It's a beautiful location along the canal and is priced under 100 E. The breakfast was very good and the hosts quite pleasant. Have fun!
