Amsterdam Hotel
Hi
We will have 2 nights in Amsterdam on our way home from Africa. My husband has never been to Europe so does anyone have any suggestions of a hotel no more than US$150 per night and must sees in Ams. I have Anne Frank Museum & Van Geough but anything a bit different??? Thanks in advance J |
For what to see http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34509661 has plenty of Fodor's forum suggestions. |
Ibis hotel chains have a few locations in Amsterdam; the price starts around 79euro.

I found hotels in Amsterdam not terribly expensive (meaning $150 should be fine for a 3-star).
Here's a website I used: www.amsterdamhotspots.nl I recommend the Leidseplein district or around Vondelpark - beautiful and still close to everything(instead of staying in the Central area near the train station, the Dam, and Red Light District which is more dense and a bit dreary). |
I personally recommend the Jordaan district, with its quaint, 3-4 story brownstones, cobblestone streets, and criss-crossing canals, all within walking distance of the Anne Franke Haus and many wonderful shops and restaurants and boutiques....

Another vote for Jordaan district though I can't make a recommendation for a hotel there. We last stayed at the Estherea which is on one of the canals. It was very nice and I liked it better than any of the other hotels we've stayed in in AMS over the years. You can find it at Amsterdamby.com which is a good website for hotels there all around. I prefer just walking the lovely streets of AMS and stopping in the various cute pubs. The Eyewitness Guide to AMS has a wonderful walk of the Jordaan district that I recommend highly. Whatever else you do have dinner at Zuid Zeeland, a great, small, flower-filled restaurant on I believe Prinzengracht. One of my favorite restaurants ever.
