If I spend one night in salisbury to see stonehenge is there another place near there worth seeing?>

And on the edge of Salisbury Old Sarum is a neat site too -(especially if you read the famous book by Edward Rutheford "Sarum"):

And leave time for Salisbury the city - I loved walking south of town just a tad for the famous vista of Salisbury Cathedral looming over bucolic meadows that Constaable and others put on now famous canvasses:

Where did you get the idea that Bath and York are similar?

You might check this site for accommodation, although in May the universities will still be in session.

For Salisbury check out B&Bs - lots on edges of town at a fraction of a hotel for a single and airbnb may be fine in Salisbury too.

Plenty of inexpensive (vs hotels for a single) B&Bs in Salisbury. Ditto for York.
