I will be meeting up with a small group of older family members (some with mobility issues) on the 23 August (Friday) in central Amsterdam. They may have jetlag and they have never been to Amsterdam.

Can I have some suggestions on where to take them please?

What sort of timescale Bilbo? Just for the arrival day? In that case maybe a boat trip would give them an introduction to the city without them having to do anything, or even concentrate too hard. Depending on the mobility issues some operators have wheelchair accesible boats. I know that Blue Boat do for instance. You do need to book in advance for wheelchair access.

They are spending two nights in town, so I'm guessing first day will be jet/lag/survival stuff. So they only have the next day "free" before they go on to for a Rhine cruise.

First day: yes to a boat trip, and maybe have lunch/dinner somewhere nice, Something like Brasserie Ambassade perhaps

Where are they staying?

Their next, full day, get them at least time slots at the Van Gogh museum.

What are the mobility issues like? You might want to choose 2 sites and of course everyone needs lunch and dinner, so maybe it could be an idea to get a taxi van for transport? A visit to an Amsterdam brown bar might be nice as well, like a tasting house. Int Aepjen on Zeedijk is one of the more traditional.

Not an expert by any means, but have been to A'Dam many times. I'd send them on the boat tour with Those Dam Boat Guys and tell them to go have drinks and dinner at MOMO.

I think a canal cruise would be a perfect activity.

If you want time to sit and enjoy each others' company, talk, etc. but would like a view, the SkyLounge at the Doubletree would be a beautiful location for that (during the day)

You say you are meeting with them: will they have arrived that day? Will their room be ready? Where are they staying?

If the barge cruise is on the arrival day and coupled with jet lag, they will all be asleep within 15 mins.

Where are they staying? Perhaps just meet up with them somewhere at their hotel or near their hotel for a bite to eat and to visit. Make it easy for them to return to their room to rest (or sleep) if they wish.

Perhaps offer to take them on a canal cruise the next day, but they may already have things they want to do on their only free day in Amsterdam.

They are staying at the Radison Blu Rusland 17, 1012 CK Amsterdam which is about as central as you can get.

That is very central! Dinner at Kapitein Zeppos could be an idea, and their nearest Amsterdam Traditional Bar is De Engelbewaarder on Kloveniersburgwal: Café de Engelbewaarder | Amsterdams café with a Belgian touch

It depends on their mobility of course, but that area is very walkable, with Nieuwmarkt close to hand for instance.

I'm not certain enough of Amsterdam geography, and am thinking it might be about 15 minutes away, but the Albert Cuyp market is always fascinating, and it's a totally flat street with plenty of watering holes along it.

And the Heineken Experience, in a part of the old Heineken factory here that was pulled down years ago - many people like the Experience anyway - videos and displays with a guide and then the tasting room.

Nobody in their right mind wants to taste Heineken.

Tell that to the Dutch! I'd wager that Heineken is the #1 Dutch beer.I guess all Dutch are crazy to do it?

At least one of the couple likes real beer, but Heineken! :-)
