amsterdam eating help
 

I will be there next week attending a conference and I want to enertain colleagues on two occassions. I was thinking Indonesian on one night, general the other.We are in our thirties and like good food and wine but I don't want it to be stuffy formal or based on a previous experience Dutch food( sorry )

I think the Luden on Spui Straat meets your specs. Go down the street for an after dinner beverage at the Hoppe, one of the oldest brown bars in Holland.

What happened that made you eschew Dutch cooking?

We like Puri Mas just off Leidseplein for our Indonesian. Excellent service but not too formal, very good food. Go up one flight of stairs to the restaurant. http://www.purimas.nl/

Well it was quite a few years ago bit I found it heavy and dull and I did try a few times...in good restaurants that I can remember.

What, you don't like ham, cheese, milk and chocolate sprinkles? ;-)
You could try Blauw aan der Waal (sp), we liked it, but it does get a few mixed reviews (i.e., still "too Dutch").

what area will you be staying in? and what is your food budget? there are good restaurants sprinkled all about amsterdam.

kantjil de tigre and orient are two very good indonesian spots (the first on the spui, the other on the baelerstraat near the museumplein). for other restaurants it would be helpful to know what you want to spend.

Maybe 35 Euro per person including wine.Staying at the Atlas on Eegenstraat. Thanks.
