Amsterdam Dinner Recommendations

I will be in Amsterdam with my wife for 5-6 days.

It's possible we may have one or two dinners while on day trips.

I'm looking for dinner recommendations in Amsterdam.

Thanks.

What kind of food do you like?

Myer Jul 3rd, 2019 03:59 AM

French
Italian
Chinese
Thai
Local in most countries we've visited
Not Mexican, Indian, or anything overly spicy

I'd avoid Thai in that case as here in the Netherlands it tends to be very hot and spicy (yum!) .
Chinese here is very different to US Chinese.

It's been several years, when we stumbled upon this restaurant and had a fabulous meal there: Stout!

If you enjoy afternoon tea, I highly recommend the Duchess at the W -

Pancakes are a traditional Dutch food (for other meals not just breakfast). I know of two pancake restaurants in Amsterdam but have the feeling that locals might consider them tourist traps. One is the Pancake Bakery on Prinsengracht and the other is Pancakes Amsterdam on the Prins Hendrikkade, just near the station. The latter is a chain but I have no experience of the others in the chain. There would be other restaurants around. A good and inexpensive lunch, perhaps?

A few of our favorite eats from our trip to Amsterdam last fall:
  • De Tuin: Great, laid-back lunch spot in Jordaan
  • Restaurant Long Pura: A great option in Jordaan for a traditional rice table. Go hungry!
  • Cafe Sonneveld: Cozy, canal facing restaurant in the beautiful Jordaan neighborhood. Excellent place to try local Dutch dishes. We ate here twice and it was wonderful both times!
  • Winkel 43: The best apple pie in Amsterdam. An absolute must.

De Belhamel, great spot, easy walk from Centraal Station, on the canals, food is great, staff lovely, a treat.

This was our favorite restaurant on our last trip to Amsterdam. https://www.momo-amsterdam.com/restaurant-bar/

It was a big splurge for us, but oh so delicious!

The trip is over and done with -- the OP is back home.

Well thanks Janis

We just returned from Amsterdam, stayed at Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, which I would recommend highly (great hotel, staff, location, food, etc.-their breakfast has a huge selection of everything including mimosas with fresh squeezed juices.)

This is not a dinner recommendation, but lunch and drinks. We enjoyed small bites at https://piqniq.nl/, but what we enjoyed more than that was their Gin and Tonic w/cucumber. The drink was the best we had ever and a great size. We actually went back on our bikes for a 2nd time and just had the drinks. Another place we enjoyed for lunch, but it could be dinner is The Seafood Bar (https://www.theseafoodbar.com/).

Here are other recommendations given to us, some we tried and some not.
Italian, Vasso - https://en.vasso.nl/#/home
Chinese, New King - http://www.newking.nl/wp-content/upl...2/A3_14CMa.jpg (good, but nothing to rave about.)
Steaks, Mr Porter https://www.mrportersteakhouse.com/a...am/#menu/roast
Romantic, fancy Dutch, d'Vijff Vlieghen, rated as one of the best in Amsterdam https://www.vijffvlieghen.nl/en/menu...t-food-flavors (good)

Enjoy your trip!

I don't know janis, maybe someone other than the OP is reading this, and just maybe finds it helpful, just asking

Leely2 Jul 19th, 2019 05:23 PM

missdonkey and ahje, yes, your recommendations will be read and helpful to many others besides the OP. Quite a few people (myself included) read posts for reference when doing trip research without ever asking a question or starting their own threads. So thank you!

I thank you as well.

Vasso ok
New King: go to Hoi Tin instead
d' Vijff Vlieghen: overrated. There IS no Dutch Cuisine, like there is French cuisine.
