Amsterdam Day Trips - how much time to allow in each place?

I'm in the process of planning my trip to Amsterdam over the US Thanksgiving holidays (LV 21 Nov and return 29 Nov).

I found this this day trip idea on TA's website and it piqued my interest: Amsterdam to Delft and on the return visit The Hague, Leiden, and Haarlem. It's a full day and I'm OK with that part. I'll be using trains to get to each destination (no plans to rent a car).

I'm not done reading up on the various cities mentioned above, but am more curious to see how much time I need to allot for each place.

This is my first visit to Amsterdam. If the return trip from Delft sounds outrageous, please feel free to let me know (in a kind manner).

Thanks in advance!

I would combine Delft with either the Hague or Leiden, and do Haarlem as another trip from Amsterdam for an afternoon (or morning), but doing all four in a day means you won't do any of them justice, though I suppose it depends on what you want to see and do in each place.

Remember too that there is little daylight in November - the sun rise around 8.15am and sets again at about 4.40 pm, but that doesn't mean it is especially light then - November is known for it's grey days.

Thank you hetismij2! I'm leaning more towards a Delft and The Hague day trip.

Haarlem is just about 20 mins from Amsterdam so do as hetismij says - go out there for a half-day from Amsterdam. Ditto for Leiden and yes Delft and The Hague would be manageable but if you want to trek out to the fabled Porcelyne fles Delft Pottery factory that is a mile or so out of Delft and to me is a real highlight of Delft - see the centuries-old craft of making Delftware being done - ogle the museum pieces and buy seconds of firsts from the factory shop.

the key sights in The Hague are clustered together near the Mauritshuis and Royal Palace area - a nice area to walk around. You can also take a tram from Delft (train station) to the center of Den Hague, which would put you right in the heart of The Hague whereas from The two Den Hague train stations it is about a mile or so walk - a bit less from Centraal station than the H.S. or Hollands Spoor station - from Delft you should be able to get a train to either one.

From the H.S. station you can walk thru Den Hague's China Town en route to the town center.

Thanks PalenQ for the information on the tram between Delft and Den Hague.

I leave a week from today. I'm excited to go, but feel not so prepared as far as planning and all that for this trip.
