Amsterdam/ Copenhagen/ Gothenborg ???

Hi,

I'm planning my very first trip to Europe and I just want to see it all, including the Scandinavia which has always been my dream destination. However, I've just realized how expensive all these cities are and as much as I'd like to, I don't think I can afford to go to all of them. Could you please suggest which one I should be crossing out? I don't have much time, so I won't have time to go to museums or do any activities apart from exploring the cities.

By the way, I've already booked a ticket back from Stockholm and will be staying there for 3 nights. If any of the 3 cities is pretty similar to Stockholm, I might as well skip it. Amsterdam is a bit out of the way, but I'll be travelling from South West Germany , so if it's worth a visit, I can definitely take a little detour.

Thank you.

Gothenburg is nice to visit but I would suggest it is not worth it if you are limited in funds. You could visit it some other time.

Amsterdam doesn't make sense if you are flying into and out of Stockholm. It is a long way out of your way.

You could fly to Amsterdam then on to Copenhagen I guess, but if money is tight you need to decide which you want to see more.

You don't say how long you have for this trip either.

@ Tentek: Thank you. I think I'll skip Gothenburg.

@ hetismij2: I'll be travelling by train from Heidelberg (It's a long trip, starting from France) which is 4 hours away from Amsterdam. It's a bit too far for a single train trip to the Scandinavia, so I'll be making a few overnight stops in Northern Germany.

Initially, I plan to spend 2 nights in Amsterdam, 2 nights in Copenhagen, 1 night in Gothenburg before wrapping it up with 3 nights in Stockholm. If I skip one of these cities, maybe I'll spend more time in Austria or Germany.

Heidelberg to Amsterdam can be done from 39 euros, book at www.bahn.de (English button top right, booking opens 90 days ahead).

There's an excellent direct City Night Line sleeper train Amsterdam Centraal depart 19:01, Copenhagen arrive 10:02, book at www.bahn.de looking for the direct CNL train with 0 changes, fares from 59 euros in a couchette (basic flat sleeping bunk with rug and pillow) or from 99 euros in a 2-bed sleeper with washbasin, shower at the end of the corridor, breakfast included.

This would save a hotel bill, too!

Oh, and you can book a Copenhagen to Stockholm X2000 train at www.sj.se or www.bokatag.se with cheap fares if you pre-book. Booking opens 90 days ahead.
