Amsterdam city access

I am looking for the quickest or cheapest way to get from the airport to the city proper. Any ideas?

Thanks
Adam

Hi adam, if you go downstairs there is the train station..you take the train from the airport into Amsterdam. It only takes about 20 minutes. The trains run about every 15 minutes. The airport is very user friendly, if you don't see the direction signs just ask, everyone seems to speak English.

LoveItaly is right-- the trains leave the airport regularly and it's very convenient.

Sounds simple enough. Thanks for the help LoveItaly. I have about an eight hour layover, is there anything you guys recommend?

Hi adam, I have never taken the train into Amsterdam as when I am there I only have about 3 or so hours before catching the plane to Venice so never enough time..unfortantly. I am sure if you start a new thread you will get tons of information. Also adam, try the search box here to pull up other posts regarding Amsterdam. And have a wonderful time!!

The train is 3.50 euro each way - and they're quite frequent (every 8-10 minutes).
A'dam is quite compact, so if there's any city that's ideal for barnstorming during a layover, it's the one.
Anything you want to do will be a short walk or tram ride away. If you want a taste of what puts the "R" in Amsterdam, walk down Warmostraat and into the Red Light District, both of which are just south of Centraal Station.
For higher culture, take the tram down to Museumplein to visit the Van Gogh Museum or the wing of the Rijksmuseum that's open during renovation.
Or take a canal boat ride to get a view of this amazing city from the water.

Try looking at the http://www.schiphol.nl/ website - it does cover this sort of thing
