Do you have any suggestions on the easiest way to Amersterdam Renasaince (sp?) Hotel from the Central Train station?

If you mean the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel on Kattengat, then you can easily walk from Central Station, it's only a few hundred yards.

Irishdame -
Thank you, infact, it is the Renaissance Amsterdam on Kattengat. I am assuming it will be easy to ask for directions at the train station, since everyone speaks english there. Do you agree?

Yes.

Yes, it's an easy walk. I did that walk today from the hotel to the Centraal Station but I had only a little luggage. It took about 5 minutes.

If I were you, I'd print off the map from the hotel website which will have the station shown as well. I agree that most people can (and are keen to) speak English. However, around the station you are likely to find a lot of people are tourists and may not know.

You could ask your hotel ahead of time for walking directions from the train station.

While I know people say "everyone speaks English in Amsterdam" I simply did not find this to be true. Many people spoke Dutch, announcements were made in Dutch, etc.

I think knowing where you are headed would be far preferable to having to <ask for directions at the train station>.

Hi all--we are back and had a wonderful time in Amsterdam--however we did follow the suggestion of printing off the hotel map and it was wrong--believe it or not, it had the star for the hotel in the wrong place. Fortunately, we asked a vendor on the street who sent us back to the right place.

We loved the Renaissance--very nice room and lovely hotel--not sure why some others weren't happy there--the street was lovely and quiet and we walked all over the city from there--it was a steal through Priceline.

Robyn- please do a review! We are going next Thursday for 3 1/2 days.
Thanks and glad you had a blast! We also got a steal through Priceline- $90/night at the Marriot. ;)
