Amsterdam, Bernardswiller (Fr) & Germany

Hi Fodorites,

Starting to plan a trip to these areas and would appreciate your input.

Amsterdam because Van Gogh is my favorite and the museum is at the top of the bucket list. Also everyone I know who has visited Amsterdam has loved it. Planning about 4 days to see the city, major museums, Fresia (spelling?) as a horse lover.

Originally planned to train from Amsterdam to Frankfurt or Cologne to pick up a rental car and leisurely visit the Mosel valley, a bit of Bavaria and fly home from Munich.

Now a home exchange opportunity has come up for August in a suburb of Strasbourg, Bernardsiller. It looks fairly close to the German wine areas. Has anyone visited here and what was your impression? It doesn't seem like very many people visit the Alcace, but that just may be my ignorance, as France is not high on my list. I know much more about Italy......

My trip would be about 16 days on the ground. Enough for the rough plan?

Thanks in advance for you comments!

Since you are a fan of Van Gogh, you may want to go to the Kroller Mueller. Check it out.

Go early and enjoy the park.

You may consider spending the night in the little town of Otterlo. We didn't but I wish we would have thought of it.

The KM is in the middle of a large National Park De Hoge Veluwe. I'm not sure about your activity level but there are free bicycles available (the White Bikes) and you can ride around the park. When we were there the café in museum was pretty good and the beer was excellent.

LSky,

I just spent some time looking into the park website and it does really look lovely - in addtion to the Van Gogh collection! Thanks so much for pointing this out, I have never heard of it.

When you visited, did you train as a day trip from Amsterdam? I would love to fit this in if possible.

Thanks!

Anyone familiar with the town in France - Bernardswiller?
