Amsterdam B & B vs hotels
We are looking at staying 2 nights in Amsterdam for pre-trip to Kenya. This is our first trip to Amsterdam but I am sure not our last. Want to be able to have easy location to see sights.
Any recent experiences at Hotel Brouwer, The Owl Hotel, Amstelhuys, or Maes B & B? Also woulkd like breakfast included.
Any other recommendations for charming stay with room witth ensuite or private bathroom is appreciated. We will be in Amsterdam early July. Most B & B's do not have a/c. Is it necessary? T raveling with 2 duffles and 2 backpacks. Any problem since there are no lifts and narrow stairs?
Thanks a bunch!

Air conditioning won't be necessary. Open a window if it is warm.
I doubt you will have AC in Kenya - so it will be good practice for you .
Can't recommend a hotel or B&B but those you mention all come well recommended here.
Brouwer I believe has steep stairs.

My grandaughter and I spent 4 days at Hotel Bower and we really enjoyed our stay.Is very basic, no tv, every room face the canal, the rooms are quite roomy, the bathroom is very clean, the desk people are friendly and the breakfast is good.
The location is very good also.
For the price is a true jewel.

Hmm. I replied previously but somehow it didn't get posted.... My husband and I loved Maas B&B -- the location was within about 10 minutes' walk of the station and everywhere we wanted to wander, there were lots of good restaurants around, and the hosts were very helpful. The stairs ARE narrow and steep, so if that's a problem you might want to ask the owners (Ken and Vlad) if they have anything on a ground floor. Otherwise, they'll certainly carry your heavy stuff up! We also liked the breakfasts around the kitchen table, swapping tips with random other staying in the house (people drifted in and out at various times). But if you don't like having breakfast with other people, that could be an issue.
