Amsterdam & Venice - Advice on travel route
 

Hi all!

I'm new to this website and it seems like a really great resources for us travellers.

I need some advice on travel routes from Amsterdam to Venice...

An important detail about my itinerary --
Fly from Singapore to Amsterdam
MUST eventually depart from Amsterdam back to Singapore

Anything else in between is up to my own planning.

I would love to travel to Venice in time for the Venice Biennale that starts June 12.

Question 1)
What is the best way to get from Amsterdam to Venice - Plane or Train?
If train, which company should I go with? It's my first time.

Question 2)
If i want to include Paris in my itinerary, what order should it be
Amsterdam -> Paris -> Venice (for example)?
Pls advise on travel order and possible transport (train or plane)

Oranged - Your cheapest option from Amsterdam will be the budget airline Transavia (- formerly Basiq) - which flies to Treviso (- 45 mins from Venice).

So do i infer from your replies that FLYING is a far superior option than going by train?

Well - Amsterdam-Venice by train is a long ride. Probably 10-12 hours + ...

That's O.K. IMO if you want to stop off and do some sightseeing on the way ... and maybe spend a couple of days getting there - or travel overnight and save the expense of a hotel.

Otherwise if you're short on time it's effectively a day wasted.
Just my opinion ...

It doesn't much matter. Venice is more 'relaxing' than Paris - if that helps you decide ...

The budget airline RyanAir flies between Beauvais (1.5 hrs from Paris) and Treviso.

There are bus shuttle services between Beauvais & Paris as well as between Treviso & Venice.

One alternative rail-wise would be taking the overnight train from Paris to Venice. It doesn't take any less time but you can at least sleep through part of it. The cheaper alternative would almost undoubtedly be to fly despite the restrictions on luggage weights and the possible inconvenience of some airports served.

I'm sure it is cheaper and faster to fly, but I enjoyed taking the overnight train between Venice/Paris. I did pay for a private cabin, rather than a shared couchette. As already mentioned, the downside of going by train is that it is most likely more expensive, and these are LONG rides you're taking about. I don't know how much time you have total for this trip, but if you have several weeks+... definitely take the train which is great fun, just find a few more places to stop along the way to break up the long stretches on a day train, or consider an overnight one.

Hi Oranged, I fly from Amsterdam to the MarcoPolo airport via the KLM City Hopper. There is not the strict restrictions on luggage that there probably is on less expensive flights.
