Amsterdam -can't find lodging - help
I am going to Amsterdam 9/11 - everything seems to be book up that is reasonable. Any one have any great ideas? I'd so hate to hang out in an airport for the night! HELP

That must be during the convention (IBC? or something like that...) Try these - some just have forms to email, not online booking - or you can get the phone number off the website.
They are all under 120E for doubles, and are located near Vondelpark/Museum areas.

This will be very tough. Many hotels require a stay of more than one night, espec. during the convention.
There is 1 room left at Sheraton/Schiphol for 140E under 'Sleep and Fly' promotion. Maybe you should take that one.

Always and I mean ALWAYS, check out Orbitz.com for hotel rooms! They have the best prices. I got a 5 star hotel,
and at the very least a 4 star, in amsterdam for $143.00 for 9/14. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use priceline.com. go to Orbitz.com and try a 3 star for about $80.00

Bookings.nl (or .org) just gives up a few apartments or B&Bs... that might be ok if they'll take someone for just 1 night. I'd want a little more information on a B&B - how do you know it isn't a dive..?
I tried Laterooms.com, but their listings were $200up or were not avail. once you checked the hotel for availability. Also looked at Hotels.com and everything is either sold out or has 'restrictions'.

Try the Hotel Brouwer in a gorgeous canal house on the Singel. It is very clean, with a good breakfast included, and nice owners. The view from any room window onto the Singel and Blauburgwal is lovely. It is only about a ten-minute walk from Centraal Station. Though the Brouwer is very popular, and so usually booked up well in advance, my friend got lucky in mid July with a last minute booking for three nights, so it's worth a try. Rates are 5o Euros for a single room and 85 Euros for a double room. There are many very positive reviews here and elsewhere.
Good luck.

I just reserved A'dam rooms for next week through the Amsterdam VVV - they seem to represent many hotels: from US phone 011-31-20-201-8800; I wanted something cheap and got a euro 37.50 single in a monastery! If there are any hotels available, they should know. I don't think it's a convention or anything it's just that Amsterdam is often fully booked on weekends as people come here from all over Europe, for many reasons for weekends; many of these are on budgets so reasonable rooms are gone. I've been in Amsterdam several times on weekends at all times of years and have found everything except luxury hotels full - hotels say it's not unusual. For B&Bs - I stayed in one last year through B&B Holland (011-31-50-313-2424) for 32 euros, single. You could also try Netherlands Reservation Center: 011 31 299-689144. If none of these have vacancies head for Haarlem or Zandvoort or hotels at Schipho Airport.

Hey Travelnut,
It is IBC weekend. You will need to move sharp-ish to get anything in A'dam proper. I wouldn't worry about anything via bookings.nl being a dive: they're a cool company. And the VVV rec is a good idea too; they're the TO and will also have their finger on the pulse of any rooms going . . .
Move fast. A'dam will be fully booked out, guaranteed. IBC brings 45,000 people to town that weekend . . .

OK Someone please tell me, what the hell is IBC, to attract 45,000! I speculate maybe International Business Conference - very appropriate in this flourishing seat of international commerce or what? International Bowling Congress; International Bulldog Conference - now that might well attract more than 45,000! Maybe it's not even international, though for Amsterdam I suspect it must be - the national aspect of anything couldn't nearly attract 45,000 - oh maybe Internet Business Congress - it pisses me off a bit that people will throw out IBC and expecting everyone to know what the hell they're talking about. Tot Ziens!

celedrra, here are two little-known guest houses - maybe they're not full yet. I can't vouch for them personally, but they're bound to be better than an airport waiting area:
Albay Homestay, www.albaybb.com
tel. +31-653 201074
Retty's Guesthouse, http://home/hccnet.nl/retty.m/
tel. +31 6 10309261
Good luck!
