Trip insurance - Where and how do I get it?

Hi Fodorites - you all are a wealth of knowledge, so I bring you our latest dilemma. We would like to book a flight in and out of Egypt from Itlay on Malev air, but the connections are very close on the way back to Rome. We only have an hour layover in Budapest. If we make that and get back to Rome at 9:10am, that is cutting it close for our flight back to the states at 1:25pm. We would save $500 over flights on Alitalia, so we are willing to buy trip insurance if it will cover us should we miss our flight back to the states. Will trip insurance cover this? If it will, how do we go about purchasing it? I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

Go right to insuremytrip.com for excellent options and a good comparison charg. The company's customer service is really good if you have questions.

insuremytrip.com has a comparison feature. You would have to read individual policies to see if it covers the 'close connection.'
Our flight is very close in Paris and the agent told us to call travel agent and get it changed, but then we would have to pay, so we are in a "hope/pray and plan B mode".
Good luck in your situation.

One good choice is Travel Guard.

Most policies won't cover you if the conenctions are unreasonable (which is whatever the company says it is).

Thanks for the insuremytrip.com site. Great help! Travel Guard is one of the policies I was looking at. I am guessing I just call to see what reasonable is to a company? Thanks for alerting me to this detail.

Regarding Travel Guard I've been very pleased in emailing them with my questions. They really do get back to you within 24 hours. You can also call as I hear they are also very helpful on the phone as well.

Most of the travel insurance companies will send you the "fine print" to read before you purchase - just ask them to mail a copy.

Definitely read all of the fine print. With some policies you'll be surprised how limited the coverage really is.

I would say to check out access america or your local triple AAA (which also uses ACCESS AMERICA).
