This is from "Ruddy Hell it's Harry and Paul" a British TV show....

You may find it amusing (don't blame me if you get the hump)

That is hysterical. And so true. Why have I not heard of this show?

USNR May 5th, 2007 03:57 AM

Funny? Sure. When we first visited England, we ran into what we called "the two of clubs syndrome." Open any conversation on the slightest pretext with a Brit, especially those our age and older, and you had a hard time getting away. They were so lonely, so inhibited, so uptight, that any move of friendliness was an opening to telling one's life story. This was especially true out in the country. Ran into one man in Oxford who had served at Gallipoli in 1915 and he jabbered on for what seemed an hour. Amazing people. But no dog photos, however. He was into birds. And he had an album, too!

I think I know those people!! :S-

Toupary May 5th, 2007 05:47 AM

Too funny!

PatrickLondon May 5th, 2007 06:03 AM

USNR - those are the people who sit around waiting in places where those sorts of conversation are likely to start up. Why else do you think people like me are on this messageboard?

I can remember when it were all fields round here......

Charley1965 May 5th, 2007 07:31 AM

We watched that last night! Classic! Enfield and Whitehouse have another hit series here. I also love the U2 sketches.

jody May 5th, 2007 07:50 AM

If USNR had said London instead of Oxford I would have said he'd had a run-in with a Chelsea Pensioner!

cigalechanta May 5th, 2007 08:00 AM

audere, you should also post this in the lounge on that faith thread.

PatrickLondon May 5th, 2007 08:19 AM

I think USNR had this sort of Paul Whitehouse character in mind:

These videos are hilarious! :)

USNR May 5th, 2007 12:45 PM

Wow! Where did you find him? That's him! That's him!

PatrickLondon May 6th, 2007 12:56 AM

Same actor, very popular (as the latest one on the whole is not) sketch show from a few years ago. "Ver' ver' drunk" was one a good half-dozen catchphrases that went into the language for a while. For more, just search for "Fast Show" on YouTube.
