Amboise to Carcassonne, where to stop?

We will be driving from the Amboise area to Carcassone and are looking for an interesting and convenient town to stop for the night (or to stop to see something interesting along the way). Any suggestions, hints, info on how long a drive that is?

Suggestions for B&Bs, small inns, hotels under 100e would be appreciated also.

Thanks in advance,
Sandy (in Denton)

Stop in Brantôme in the Dordogne.

Use viamichelin for distance and estimated time depending on the option you choose (fast, tourist, etc.). The Autoroute from Vierzon to Limoges is free.

If you are interested in a profound subject matter, Oradour-sur-Glane memorial is just west of Limoges.

I just googled Oradour . . . very sad. But glad they kept it as is for the reminder.

Might have to swing by.

Thanks,

About half-way on your journey, I would get off the A20 at exit # 57 near Cahors, and drive a very short distance to St Cirq Lapopie and stay there the night. Fewer tourists in the late evening/early morning. Visit close-by Pech Merle cave (reserve in advance) and perhaps drive along the lovely Cele River to Figeac (visit) and back.
