Amboise or Blois

I've stayed in Amboise before and loved it. Now, somewhat in error, I have made a reservation for Blois, forgetting that it is the larger of the 2 towns. We have a car, and a room with a view of the chateau. Should we just leave it alone? Is traffic manageable in Blois with a car? Is it a "walkable" enough small town to enjoy wandering around in the evening for dinner? Any suggestions for a restaurant, which our hotel does not have? Thanks in advance. (Not our first time driving in Europe or France.)

I can give only a limited answer, as I have never actually stayed in Blois.

It's a small city, and definitely walkable. It's not difficult to drive into or out of it, either. Parking in summertime can be difficult, so I hope your hotel can help you there.

In your position (which I am not) I would simply go with the booking and experience a new place.

We had lunch in Blois last year. It had a nice pedestrian area with plenty of shops and restaurants. I wouldn't worry about staying there.

I have been there about 2 years ago. We used Blois as point to visit all the Chateau. It is not a small town sch the little and nice Amboise. Try to make day trips to Chenanceau, Azay les Rideau, and the others Castles. It really worth. But don't go expecting too much from Blois. Don't miss the Blois Castle at night, there is a music performance a show of music and lights. Enjoy

Looking for a smallish town for 3 nts between Amsterdam & Paris. Would you recommend Amboise? Which hotels, restaurants, what to do? Haven't spent time outside Paris on previous trips except for day trips to Versailles, Chartres, Normandy, so we are looking for someplace new to explore. Hotel recommendations especially appreciated.

Many thanks!
