Amboise (Loire) Restaurant suggestions?
Does anyone have any restaurant suggestions for Amboise ? I will be there this week for a few days, but not looking for Michelin ** rated ones. (been there-done that).
We are staying at the Mimmes? so one day I will eat there. |
If you mean Manoir les Minimes, they don't have a restaurant (just a breakfast room).
We just ate dinner at the Italian place across from the base of the chateau. I think it was called 'La Florentine'. It was fine, nothing extraordinary just good and not expensive. http://restaurant-laflorentine.com/i...03&HO=9001 I can't get Google or Mappy to place the address correctly, though. |
Just across from the entrance to the chateau you will find the adorably delicious L'Epicerie serving traditional French dishes. Small, initmate with fare that is more "bistrot" than "hatute cuisine"....it would be too bad to miss it just because it IS listed in the Red Michelin!
Reservations strongly recommended if you really want to get in...just too obvious a location and the locals eat here too because it is so good. |

Food was decent. Total was €17. Food was excellent. One can order a la carte or various priced menus. 3 of us went for the €20 3-course menu, Dad had the €28 4-course menu. Entrees - Dad had Foie Gras pate; Mom had a puff pastry pot with mussels in a curry sauce inside; DH & I had a goat cheese filo served over green salad Plats - Dad had duck, Mom had swordfish, DH had beef kabob, I had tripe sausage Desserts - Dad had a strawberry plate which had strawberry prepared in 4 different ways. Mom and I had a fruit salad. Forgot what DH had. The extra course was Fromage. Total was €98. Le Parvis in Amboise [Dinner] 3 bis, rue Mirabeau 37400 Amboise Tel: 02 47 57 50 07 The restaurant is tucked in a small side street just off Rue Victor Hugo (the main drag next to the Chateau). 2 of us had 2-course and 2 had 3-course Entrées - Dad had tomato soup (wonderful homemade), Mom had scallop terrine, DH & I both had a Prosciutto with mozarella salad Plats - Dad & DH both had Coq au Vin, mom had a special 3-fish plate (baked), I had a delicious lamb kabob. Desserts - a chocolate mousse and a capuccino ice cream Overall food was pretty good. I think my plat was the best dish. Dinner was €64 |
L'Epicerie, as klondike says, is wonderful.

Thank you all for the recommendations. As I will be there several days, I will try them all. Manoir de Minimes didn't have room for all the trip, so we are staying at another place they found for us, the last nite: Le Pavillon de Lys.

Just saw this and wanted to say the the best meal we had the last time we were in Amboise was at the Pavillon de Lys. You should make a reservation for dinner. I don't have access to my travel journals right now but we had a very memorable meal there. I remember that the chef was very creative, plated the food beautifully, and it was delicious. We were just passing through for one night or we would have eaten there again.Friends have been since and thoroughly enjoyed it. We have stayed at Le Vieux Manior twice and they recommended it to us.

Another vote in favour of both Pavillon de Lys and L'Epicerie.
There was another little place the Manoir les Minimes staff directed us to which was wonderful. It was across the river, a short drive to the East. Small dining room, operated by a young couple. Warm service, wonderful food. Can't remember the name. |
Auberge de la Croix Blanche. Nothing like viamichelin.com to help track places down.

For some good basic "bar/pub food" go across the river bridge located at the Manior les Minimes and then turn right to the little cocktail lounge called Le Shaker. Good food, friendly staff (but with limited English) and good drinks. Also an outdoor terrace overlooking the river for nice weather. We liked it enough to go back twice.

Thanks all, we will visit all suggestions, we aree headed ther tommorrow. I didn't want to bring a map this time, so I ended up buying a GPS here, since the rental cars in Amboise do not have GPS (Europcar). Hopefully it will make it easier finding the Chateaux, if not I will use it going to Normandy.
