Amboise

Hi

We are planning a 3 day stay in Amboise to see the sights there and the surrounding area. We will not have a car.

Last time there, ten years ago, I stayed at Le Blason. It was adequate and clean. Has anyone stayed there lately?

This time I am taking my teenage granddaughter with me. Are there any places to recommend that do not cost an arm and a leg? Moderate pricing preferable but not absolutely necessary.

Would appreciate recent information on hotels and B&Bs.
Thanks,

Amboise is a once charming village (even though a friend of mine who lives there does not like my calling it a village) that has been absolutely over-run with tourists and tour buses. I avoid it other than to visit friends.

If you do not have a car (and for a visit of 3 days your should) either Blois or old Tours (that area specifically between Place Plumereau and the old train station) offer a better choice of tours, restaurants, and hotels at prices much less inflated for tourists than what is found in Amboise.

Thank you. I never thought of Tours. When I visited Amboise ten years ago, not very many people went there. It was then very special. Is Blois relatively unspoilt?

Hi mweiner,
If you do decide to stay in Amboise: we stayed at Le Blason in August 2009. Like you said it was adequate and clean. No problems at all. We didn't notice Amboise over run with tourists as Sarasota says but then again we were gone each of the four days we were there doing day trips. We really did enjoy the son et lumiere at the Chateau though. Happy planning.

Stayed at Le Blason 2 years ago for 3 nights, and after our noisy apartment in Paris, it was heaven. For the price I was quite satisfied.

we were only in Amboise for a short time, but I did enjoy it...Chenonceau (sp?) is near by and we LOVED that

didn't think Amboise was overrun in October, enjoyed the da Vinci museum as well as the Chateau d'Amboise. we did have a car so can't say where to go that is easy by train. the Amboise train station is across the river from the old town/chateau area.

Thanks all! anyone been to the Aquarium in Amboise? There is also an amusement park somewhere there. Trying to do something a teenager may enjoy during the day. Settled on a place with a pool - Le Clos d'Amboise. Has anyone stayed there?
