Tell all please! I'm very curious about these two.

In addition to walking the length of the islands as a gesture of his love, he was looking for his father's birthplace (born to missionaries) using only a sketch of a portion of the Japanese coastline drawn many years ago by his grandmother.

He met thousands of Japanese people, visited their homes, found the birthplaces and won the girl.

Here is his website about it http://www.buckswoodside.com/kintaro/

There is a documentry video http://kintarowalksjapan.com/

very good read. Thanks for including the link.

Wow. Thanks, Keith. Really a great read. Sure do hope these guys win!

UC Santa Cruz=hippies=figures

I don't care for Lake either, but the nerds also annoy me. Constantly professing their love for each other. Are they trying to convince themselves? They probably never dated anyone else, ever, and thrilled to find each other. As far as being upset for getting short with each other: that's how relationships work, particularly when you're jet-lagged!!

Don't you recall when you were young and had a new relationship and you said "I love you" about 150 times a day? I say good for them, cause just wait till they've been married 20 years.

Michel_Paris Mar 30th, 2006 10:33 AM

Lake must go. In a couple of episodes, he made some mistakes, and he goes on to say "we made some mistakes"...no, that's "I made some mistakes". I don't sense this is something he can say. Plus I'm a little tired of the dominant male, submissive female scenario.

This weeks video at the CBS website give a little insight on why it was the Double Ds that were yielded. Ray & Yolanda have become close with Lake & Michelle.

The AR website has technical problems and is really hard to use. CBS should replace the people tun it.

I've kinda lost respect for Tyler - the Japan story was great, but then further research turned up a journal of his from working in Japan that is rather crass - he is no better than the frat boys.

abbynicole27,

what makes you think that is Tyler's journal?

Liz2005 Mar 31st, 2006 06:26 AM

Yeah, abbynicole, that doesn't seem to be the same person as Tyler from AR.

JJ5 Mar 31st, 2006 06:29 AM

Tyler & BJ are both good at playing the media- it seems like they've had lots of practice.

HAS ANYONE SEEN THAT THEY HAVE CHANGED THE TIME OF AMAZING RACE!!!!

I was flummoxed last night when I just happened to catch a preview and it says WEDNESDAY AT 7PM Central Time

This is too early for me- and I'm rather perturbed but will see it somehow.

All you people who hated the late showing- you will be happy with this. I hate when they change series shows.

sandi_travelnut Mar 31st, 2006 06:34 AM

I have to say, in the hippies' defense that they never came on the show and said "we're just a couple of hippies from Ca. that smokes a lot and are kinda loopy..." whatever.. we put that lable on them. They have always been just happy, friendly and smart in the way they play the game. It doesn't seem that they're trying to make themselves out to be soemthing they're not. I bet they really act and dress that way in SanFrancisco.

Barbara Mar 31st, 2006 06:45 AM

abbynicole, according to the CBS TAR website, Tyler is now 25. Your link goes to a page in which the author says he is 25...and the date is 2002.

Keith Mar 31st, 2006 06:51 AM

The "hippies" call themselves the hippies, so that is the name we (and the other teams) use.

It doesn't meant they are hippies, anymore than the Dallas Cowboys are cowboys.

sandi_travelnut Mar 31st, 2006 07:27 AM

fine, but the rest of my comment still stands.

Bird Mar 31st, 2006 08:11 AM

Happy Friday everyone.

I'm also annoyed by the two that call themselves "hippies". Maybe NeoHippies or Urban Hillbillies. I like the team, but not the name. I'm pulling for Ray and Yolanda to put the travel learning curve behind them and start getting ahead.

Mathieu Mar 31st, 2006 08:50 AM

Call them whatever you like, it's BJ and Tyler for the win for me.

From all evidence so far, they just seem like nice, decent people to me and they're having a blast playing the race.

LCBoniti Mar 31st, 2006 10:32 AM

And they are good at it! (Playing the game, that is.)

abbynicole27 Apr 1st, 2006 06:44 AM

Sorry - didn't notice that. Someone else said that it was his, and there were so many similarities (American in Japan, Kintaro, etc.) that I didn't question it.
Again, very sorry.
