Thanks for that link! It was very interesting and definitely brought many smiles to my face.

Shane - Rob & Amber's wedding wasn't tacky. So it was televised. They got a beautiful wedding, honeymoon and a lot of cash.

I found it refreshing to see how much love they do have for one another. Underneath his gruff exterior Rob is a pussycat.

To Ally67,

I don't have speakers/sound . . . what did Joyce/Uchena say about the taxi?

Loved them . . . glad they won!

Thanks,
Sandy (in Denton)

For Sandy ( and others without sound ):

They said two rules include: You can't say you are on "The Amazing Race," and you can't break the law (skip out on a bill.) They also said they tried to keep a good karma through the whole race, and didn't want to mess up at the end. They were also not sure what place they were in at that point. But they did say if they had seen another cab come around the corner, they would have bolted.

I guess the taxi driver was complaining on Miami TV that they stilled owed him $15. They said they'd give him the fifteen bucks, but not a "bonus" as they had originally intended. They do want to "bonus" the airline pilot who let them on, and also contact some of the people that helped them along the way. They kept cards and addresses.

Speaking of the airline... They said the same ticket agent who lied for Rob at the counter (saying there were no other flights) was the same at the gate. I guess U. yelled at her "You lied to us!" And she seemed intimidated by the cameras, and embarrased that she had misled, and for the sake of good AA PR, or saving her own skin, called the pilot to try to assist.

There you go!

One more tidbit to add to Dreamer's account:

They said that it was NOT the first time in the race that a plane had pulled back in to the gate for an AR couple. It had happened earlier in the race for Rob and Amber!

Also, they said they were significantly ahead of Rob and Amber at the end. Enough time to beg for the cabfare for awhile. Then run in to claim victory and then have a meal. All before Rob and Amber arrived. The editing made it look like Rob and Amber were seconds behind them - NOT SO!

Very interesting interview - thanks!

Dear Madison,
All beach weddings are tacky. All weddings without some sort of minister are tacky. Television makes everything tacky just by its presence. Who knows, with this reality craze so strong on TV, maybe CBS can come out with taping Rob and Amba's honeymoon, complete with blurred out pics of them in their wedding bed.

And dear Marilyn, yes, my wife gave me a watch or else.......and watch I did.

sandy_b May 27th, 2005 06:25 AM

Thank you Dreamer2 and DeeDee . . . can hardly wait for the next AR!

Shane, I have often disagreed with your perspective, but I am with you on televised weddings. As I said somewhere up above in this marathon thread, I am fully expecting the birth of the first Romber child to be a televised event. Live webcam in the delivery room!

I am glad to know that you are such an obediant husband. ((A))

Madison May 27th, 2005 09:29 AM

Since on of the rules of AR is that you can't skip out on a bill, Uccenda and Joyce did. They owed the Taxi driver $15.00. They should have been made to pay up front 100% before running to victory. So they should have lost the race.

They didn't abide by the rules.

Madison May 27th, 2005 09:40 AM

Dee Dee - Funny thing is we never saw a plane come backfor Rob and Amber, did we? Sounds like Uccenda and Joyce are trying to justify their illegal win.

They no more deserved that money than the man in the moon. It was definitely fixed

A broadcast on Rob and Amba's baby could fill an hour's TV. Just think. Rob and Amba at LaMaze childbirth training. Amba's baby shower. Amba in 20 hour labor. Amba's epidural. Amba's epidural doesn't work and the resulting screams of childbirth (happened to my wife). Rob holding Amba's hand and spooning her ice slivers as Amba wails. The childbirth itself. Rob, who got sick at Survivor
Marquesas over fly-ridden fish, cuts the embilicle cord. Amba breastfeeding. And finally, Rob changing his first diaper. Great TV.

Shane - your most recent reply is so funny. Don't be surprised if we see a portion or all of the baby experience you mentioned on TV. That ought to be good for another million dollars. :)

Thank you for the laugh. I really needed it this morning.

Oh goodie! We came late to the show and didn't see the first few Races at all. Now if I just get the Game Show Network...

Clifton Jun 18th, 2005 10:07 AM

Thanks Meredith. I missed the first couple of seasons too.
