Hi,

Please let me know if you have any recommendations for seeing live music or dance performance in Paris, & more specifically the Latin Quarter!

Also, any suggestions for amazing food would be very appreciated!

thanks so much!!

There is live music every night at Caveau des Oubliettes in the Latin Quarter in the ancient dungeons, underneath a bar with a real guillotine.

Some restaurants I like in the Latin Quarter are:

Le Petit Prince de Paris http://www.lepetitprincedeparis.fr/

Le Pre Verre http://www.lepreverre.com/

Restaurant Itineraires http://www.restaurantitineraires.com/

Amazing is kind of a tall order, but what do you mean by dance performance? There are no performing arts venues in the Latin Qtr where they have things like that, if you mean some theatre with a stage with ballet, opera or modern dance performances.

The Latin Quarter has not been considered to be a highlight of Parisian nightlife since about 1965.

Live music...there are also quite a few classical concerts given at night in the local churches.

In the summer, there is salsa dancing outside at the Open Air Sculpture museum along Seine.

Thank you Michel for all of the recommendations!

And by "amazing" I mean something that will be wonderful and enjoyable. Last time (the first time) I was in Paris, I felt like I didn't find the great places, but just the mediocre food and no live music. I really wanted to see Moulin Rouge, but I fear it will not satisfy me. I am a dancer, & I've heard harsh critique of the artistry of the show. But I would love to see a show like Moulin Rouge, but one of quality, even if small and not all the big showy things of Moulin Rouge. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I don;t think that Moulin rouge or anyplace similar is the place to go to see dancing. this is a tourist trap - and a very old fashioned Las Vegas style show with a lot of barely dressed "showgirls" parading or prancing around.

If you are really interested in dance you need to google dance in Paris and check out what the various ballet and modern dance troupes are performing. I'm not aware that there is even anything in the region of good quality broadway show type choreography and dancing (although I may be wrong about the latter - which there is a reasoanble amount in London).

as for mediocre food - there is a good deal in paris. You need to look for either relaible reviews or personal recos - once you have identified your cuisines and budget. (And yes there are many hundreds of modestly priced cafes or brasseries in Paris with perfectly reasonable food - although you need to know which ones and what to order where.) But I would not assume you can walk into any place and get food that is more than than just OK.

You might want to go to www.whatsonwhen.com and search for dance events in Paris for the dates you are there, as well as other events of interest. There are always a bazillion artsy things going on in Paris - though the best of them are unlikely to be anywhere near the Latin Quarter; you'll have to go farther afield.

The Latin Quarter isn't especially well-known for amazing food, either, though there are exceptions.
