amaraetta disaronno
As I poured my spiked lemonade I wondered - is there a factory tour of anything of note in Saronna? I can't find anything on this board or slowtrav about Saronno - except to reference trains to Lake Como. Evidently, it's not a thriving tourist destination.

You might be having trouble finding info if you're changing the spelling when you do a search. The liqueur is Amaretto di Saronno. Here's a website about Saronno, in the province of Varese, in Lombardy. http://www.comune.saronno.va.it/CITTA/default.php

Thanks, but do you know of anything in English? The Welcome box that looks like the usual switch language box didn't work.
I've googled, received directions to Saronno via Mappy.com, checked slowtrav and tripadvisor, with little results. I've found the liqueur's website - www.disaronna.com as well. Sorry about the a at the end of the first word. That was just a typo. |
I just found that site via Google. It's not a site that I already had or knew about.

Here's a list of pages about the city in English: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...ronno+lombardy

Frankly, I don't think a liquor factory -- unlike, say, a winery -- is anything worth visiting. It's pretty much an industrial procedure these days, no matter how they go on and on about history and heritage...

Thanks for the response, Elaine. I was envisioning a picturesque town - but evidently not.
I agree - the perfume "factories" in Grasse were nothing more than exhibits with the opportunity to buy perfume. But, there's a Jack Daniels distellery and an imteresting Tabasco "factory" tour in Avery Island, LA. The packaging of Amaretto Di Saronno is so unique, my hopes were the town might be as well. |
Sorry, ELOISE! Time to clean my reading glasses!

I'm generally not very interested in factory tours (though a tour of a carpet factory in Turkey was one of the most interesting tours of a facility I've ever taken), but it seems to me that the city of Saronno itself might be quite nice to visit. Here's a picture: http://www.gbgrassi.it/alef/saronno/home.html This looks like a place I'd like.

I'm curious on what basis you came to this conclusion if you dind't find information: << I was envisioning a picturesque town - but evidently not.>>
