Amandelstaaf with speculaas in AMSTERDAM

I will be in Amsterdam towards the end of November. Does anyone know the best places in Amsterdam to buy amandelstaaf that's wrapped in soft speculaas? I am totally addicted to it.

Any good baker will have this at the end of November, as will shops like Hema, Albert Heijn and V&D. It is a big treat associated with Sinterklaas (5 December) so will be widely avaialble. Generally those at the bakers should be better quality, but it isn't always the case.

Thanks for the info, hetismij. Of the three cheaper stores mentioned, which one makes the best?

In the past, I bought them from bakers in Rotterdam and Utrecht but never in Amsterdam. Anyone knows of any great bakery in Amsterdam? I really want the best since I'm flying thousands of miles to get them.

I'd go with V&D, followed by Hema followed by Albert Heijn.

In the Utrechtsestraat there is patisserie Kuyt which is a really good (and expensive) bakery. They won a prize for best patisserie in The Netherlands in 2006. I sometimes buy their extremely delicious fig pie. Mostly I just walk by, trying not to be lured in by the delicious smell of baked goodies they (purposely I think) blow into the street. I've never had their amandelstaaf but I can only imagine it must be good. I think the thing to look for in a good amandelstaaf is that the filling is really made from ground almonds and not just ground apricot seeds or white beans.

In that case, I will definitely do long hike to V&D. I never care for the regular amandelstaaf from Alberthijn anyway. I will also head to Kuyt since it's just a few blocks toward the Amstel. This is one of those local info that I can only get from Fodors, THANKS ALL!

Thanks to all of you who helped me out. I ended up buying 6 pieces from Bijenkorf and 2 from V&D, and still enjoying them now. I forgot to bring my note for Kuyt bakery so I couldn't remember it. The weather was really challenging and ominous so it discouraged me from walking too far. Fortunately some people were able to drive me around.
