Amalfi Hotels Help
 

Hi All,

Heading to Amalfi for my honeymoon from July 9th - 14th ( 5 nights ). We're looking for a nice hotel that has a pool and a room with a sea view and balcony. Our budget is around $500 USD per night. Please help because I have been researching hotels for two weeks now and have just been spinning my wheels! Thanks, Dan.

Looks like the Santa Caterina is a little out of my price range. I also looked at the Miramalfi and for roughly the same prices as the Luna and Grand Hotel Convento I could get a suite at Miramalfi. Is that hotel nice? Or would the other two be nicer even in a standard room? Thanks, Dan.

You'll do well on your budget and could actually stay on Capri for that.

Luna Hotel will have something for you.

We still like La Tonnarella just south of Sorrento, but some reviews on it are just okay. We've always loved it and for the price and location we love it. Terrific views from the corner rooms.

If you really want Amalfi, then without question I agree with ekscrunchy's recommendation of the Hotel Santa Caterina.

The Miramalfi looks nice and is in a good location. I've not stayed there but there have been reports of posters on this forum being happy there and I would have no hesitation.

I think Amalfi makes a great spot from which to explore the coast.

We stayed at Miramalfi Hotel a couple of years ago. It was a wonderful experience and we would definitely return there next time we are in the area.

We had the Superior room, an end unit with our own balcony and a magnificent view of the sea and the Amalfi town. Room was very clean and nicely decorated...with beautiful Amalfi tiles on the floor. They clean the room in the morning and do a turn down service in early evening. The pool area is magnificent, like it was carved from the surrounding rock cliff. If you want to swim in the sea, there is a small staircase and ladder directly into the water. Lots of places to sunbathe.

We had our own car, so going into the town for dinner or lunch was not a problem. The other nice thing is that they have their own parking place. You can walk to Amalfi but you do so along the coastal road.

So I've narrowed my list down to:

Il Saraceno

Luna Convento

Amalfi Grand Hotel Convento

Looking for some advice? We really like Saraceno but with it not being in the town centers is this a problem? We will be in the region for 5 days so we'll be making day trips to Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello.....We'll also do a day trip to Napoli and Capri....Which one of these hotels would suit us best? Thanks again!

All things being equal you are probably better off within walking distance of the town center, so you can walk to restaurants at night and also be close to the ferry dock whicih expands the options for day trips, especially if you do not want to deal with the buses.

If you do not mind taking a taxi to the town or to waiting for the bus, it does not matter as much.

If it were me and I had that short list, I would choose either the Luna, but not in the lowest class room, or the Convento, which is the former Cappucine Convent and has a glorious position high on the cliff overlooking town.

The Saraceno is in Conca dei Marini, which is the next hamlet to the west of Amalfi. There are a few places to eat near the hotel; I like that area, although again, it might be slightly more convenient to stay in Amalfi itself. But again, you can take the bus to Positano and to Amalfi from there; you just have to be prepared to deal with the crowded buses in near high season.

Have you read the reviews on TripAdvisor to get a sense of the three properties? What is making you shy away from the Miramalfi?
