amalfi coast with kids

We are 2 families, 4 kids total, (2 boys 2 girls), aged 8-14. What are some good hotels/spots to visit with kids for about 5 days on the Amalfi Coast? We are moving south from Venice for a 3 week trip and want to end it at the beach to relax. Any other suggestions on seaside spots? We like to sail and would love to charter a day sail. We don't want the kids to get bored!

Look for ms._go's excellent trip report about renting a villa in Positano with her family (husband and daughter). With your size group, I'd suggest an apartment or villa rental to save on hotel costs which can be steep on the Amalfi coast. If you are thinking of next summer, be sure to book as soon as possible as the best places go quickly. The beaches aren't great on the AC, small and pebbly, and only a couple of very expensive hotels have their own beach. That usually means a long trek down to the public beach and an even harder trek up at the end of the day. The kids might enjoy a trip to Pompeii and Capri.
