Amalfi Coast - which town? and when?

My fiance and I are thinking about getting married in Italy. We're not sure whether to stay in Sorrento or Positano, and if it's better to go in June or September 2005??
We had initially set June 28, 2005 as our wedding date, but I read that it gets really hot & crowded around that time. And then I thought September 28, 2005 might be a good time, but read that it rains a lot in September. Any suggestions?

I am not sure if we have chatted at all, but I am getting married in Positano this coming September. We originally wanted to stay in Sorrento because it is easier to get transportation around the area (train and boat) from Sorrento. We ended up deciding on Positano instead because we found a hotel in our price range with great reviews, the wedding would be in Positano anyway and we would probably have to spend a little time in Positano confirming with the photographer and florist (it would be more convenient overall). Everyone tells us it is a GREAT time to get married there because it is still warm, there are less tourists since most kids are back to school and it is beautiful there at that time of year. Cross your fingers that it doesn't rain - we are getting married outside!

I have been in May, June, and September. My first choice is September.

I prefer May/June over the fall simply because of the extended hours of daylight - strolling in the waning light/twilight is one of the joys of the area.

Visited in June - spendid!

Just returned from Italy and I thought Positano was TONS more romantic than Sorrento.

Thank you all for your input. Positano would definitely be my first choice and I'm leaning more towards going in September. Although I do like longer daylight hours, I don't like large crowds or sweltering heat.
mgfit - I wish you good weather. there was only one person who complained of rain. Did you hire a wedding planning agency? Or did you do most of the legwork on your own? I'm still not sure which route to take. My fiance wants to save money by doing as much as possible on our own, but I like the ease and convenience of hiring a company that organizes weddings abroad.
Thanks again.

We were in the Amalfi Coast area in late September for our honeymoon and did not recall it raining much at all. We were still able to swim around Capri also.

Definitely Positano is more beautiful than Sorrento. But don't miss Capri or Ravello! Or Pompeii, for that matter!

Hi tb,

We were in Praiano for the first week of Oct, 2003. The weather was comfortably warm.

It rained the first day and the last day.
