Amalfi Coast versus Italian Riviera
I know this is general, but if you had about 9 nights and could choose to spend it on the Amalfi Coast or the Itilian Riviera/Lake Region, which would you choose?

Hello Mary, That is a tough one--which of your kids do you love most??
Amalfi is more expensive and you may want to move on after 5 days. However, the combination of the Lakes and coast
will give you more variety. I would land at Milan, do 3 days at Orta/Maggiore area, head down to the Cinque terre for 3 nites, then back up to Bellagio for your last days---Malpensa airport is then only an hour away--you cannot go wrong either way.

Mary, I agree with Bob, but it's a personal call. My itinerary would be 3 days on the Amalfi, with a side trip to Paestum; 2 days on Cinque Terre and the rest in the lake district, starting at Stresa,(take a tour out to the Borromean Islands) up to Locarno (it's at the North end of Lake Maggiore, in Switzerland) and take the train to Domodossola, a great little narrow gauge railroad through some spectacular scenery. If you have time, drive to the Ticino, a great mix of German/Italian/Swiss.

I think that the Amalfitanian coast is the nicest and most romantic coast I've ever seen. Coast towns like Positano, Amalfi, Sorrento, islands like Capri. At the other side of the coast you can see Naples, right behind this citty you can see the Vulcano Vesubian, it's an amezing view. Also, there you have Pompeii. An old roman town. In case you don't have enough, go down to islands like Stromboli, near to Sicily, there is no mafia. They are a very small islands, so the Mafia can't take profit of them. Bye.
I would choose Amalfi because the views are great!
