Amalfi Coast to Rome Airport
Hello,
Looks like we might have to fly out of Rome on our return flight. There's a 10 a.m. flight out of Rome. Should we be staying the night before in Rome if we're coming from the Amalfi Coast? What are the different ways of getting from the Amalfi Coast to Rome, how much and how long does it take? Don't know yet whether we'll be in Sorrento or Amalfi. Thank you for your help. |
I can't imagine you could spend the night in Sorrento or Amalfi. It's a bit of a long ride and you should allow three hours at the airport. That means you should plan on arriving at the airport at 7:00 am.

Agreed - you need to be at the airport by 7 am - which will mean leaving Sorrento by 4 am - in a private car. Using public transit I don;t think you can do it all leaving in the morning.

Hi Rb - You definitely want to spend your last night in Rome.
When are you travelling? A relatively hassle-free budget option in high season is the Positano-Rome bus service (- operator: Marozzi). It leaves Positano approx 4p.m Fare: €20.00 approx For details see: www.marozzivt.it Other options include: - ferry or bus to Salerno (- or Sorrento), then - train to Rome via Naples - limo transfer to Naples Station, then - train to Rome - hydrofoil Positano to Naples, transfer to Naples Station, then - train to Rome Hope this helps ... "Should we be staying the night before in Rome if we're coming from the Amalfi Coast?" Definitely, for any flight before mid afternoon. (Although note you only need to get there 3 hours beforehand if your flight is to the US.)
"What are the different ways of getting from the Amalfi Coast to Rome, how much and how long does it take? Don't know yet whether we'll be in Sorrento or Amalfi." Sorrento isn't on the Amalfi Coast. But if you stay there, either Circumvesuviana train or bus to Naples, then train to Rome. Or limo to Naples for c.€80. From Amalfi, bus or boat to Salerno & train to Rome. Boat options depend on the time of year. |
We were staying in Positano and our flight went out of Rome at 1pm.
We did make the trip back without problems in our rental car but had to leave quite early in the morning, think it was around 6am. As your flight is at 10am I definitely think you should stay in Rome overnight. |
Hi rb,
>Should we be staying the night before in Rome ... That's what I would do. ((I)) |
PS,
If you are in Sorrento, take the Circumvesuviana to Naples. It arrives at the lower level of the stattion. The train to Rome leaves from the upper level. If you are in Amalfi, take the SITA bus to Salerno. It stops at or near the train station. Take the train to Rome. |
Definitely stay the night in Rome. This past September my husband and I had a driver take us from FCO to Positano. He said he had to leave Sorrento at 3 am in order to get to Rome at 6 before the rush hour hit. He said he would rather wait for us for a couple of hours than be late picking us up.
I wouldn't want to risk missing my flight home! |
