Amalfi Coast/Sorrento Itinerary Help!

Hello,

Looking for a bit of itinerary help for our 10 day Amalfi/Sorrento honeymoon at the end of June. We have accommodations at Hotel Fontana and Grande Hotel Excelsior. So far we have a few excursions and places to see but nothing concrete. Any must sees that you would recommend? Also looking for some restaurant or any eating recommendations since most of the places we looked up were extremely expensive.

Thanks!

What town on the AC are you staying in?

I believe its just Amalfi.

With ten days, I might consider staying in two different places to make excursions easier. Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Capri might be easier from Sorrento. Amalfi, Positano, Ravello and Paestum might be easier from Amalfi.

Thanks! We will be Amalfi for 5 days and Sorrento for the remainder.

Perfect 5 and 5 - though for me 5 days just in the Amalfi area would be too much - but it depends on what you like - from Sorrento it is much easier to day trip to places Sassafrass spotlights - I would add Ischia, an island I enjoyed as much as more famous Capri, to the list.

Maybe 4 nights in Amalfi and 6 in Sorrento, being many more easier day trips possible from there - do not neglect Naples and see something more than just the famous museum - Naples is an old-world town the likes of which few remain in Italy - laundry strung between windows on tiny lanes - not the cleanest city in the world but one of the most interesting - but I would rather stay in a more sedate and yes safe place like Sorrento.

There is a great walk from Amalfi up to Ravello - a nice paved footpath ascending thru a lush valley or orchards and small farms- from Ravello I took a different path down to the sea - zigzagging thru vineyards on paved workers' paths - saw the locals tending the vines - with the seacoast and sea in full splendor in front of me all the way down.

So if energetic walk up to and down from Ravello from Amalfi just below it.

Well I will counter PalenQ and say that I would prefer 6 nights in Amalfi and 4 in Sorrento. I spend at least a week each year in Positano, so obviously I am partial to the Amalfi Coast! :-) In fact I will be there the last week of June also - only 59 days to go!

Obviously, from Sorrento you can see Pompeii and/or Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Naples. Also Capri would likely be easier than from Amalfi.

While in Amalfi, you can hike the Trail of the Gods, visit Ravello (via walking up the 1000 stairs or taxi or bus). You can also visit Paestum (amazing) via bus/train. Obviously I would vote for spending a day exploring Positano.

If you have time, you could also catch the ferry to Positano, then the small boat to Laurito Beach, where you can relax in the loungers and have a fantastic lunch at Da Adolfo. If you decide to do it, call the day before and make reservations - they do get sold out, since the beach is small.

You can do a lot of things on the Amalfi Coast.
If you like trekking I suggest you the "Sentiero degli Dei" (The Gods' Pathway), the most spectacular on the whole of the Amalfi Coast.

For the restaurants here a list of the ones that I prefer ;-)

While you are in Sorrento you will find there are lots of good day trips you can take. As mentioned by Sasafrass Herculaneum and Pompeii are easily reached on the local commuter train and Capri by ferry.
Also mentioned was Pasteum. If you are interested in Greek temples then this is a must see excursion. There is a guided tour from Sorrento.
Here are images of our visit to Sorrento and Compania last May.

Wow thanks for all the responses. I am putting together our daily itinerary and this really helps!

To go to Paesteum on your own from Sorrento you can take a novel route - take the CircumVesuviana train to Pompeii Scavi station - walk or taxi the about a mile to modern-day Pompeii whose Trenitalia station has trains to Salerno and onto Paesteum, just south of Salerno - some trains may be direct or change in Salerno.

Or take the Amalfi bus to Salerno but with oft heavy traffic on a two-lane road it could take a long time - boats in season also go I believe from Sorrento or at least Positano to Salerno.
