Amalfi Coast Itinerary

I am planning a trip with my wife to Italy the last week of March. We have never been to Europe, but she always wanted to go to Italy and especially the Amalfi coast,so I booked a room for 6 nights at the Hotel Onda Verde in Praiano.I would like some suggestions or recomendations on places to see or not to see,as we do not have any plans as of yet. Thank You

NB - Must sees? Here are a few for starters:

Positano, Ravello, Amalfi, Capri, Pompei, Ercolano, Vesuvius, Sorrento, Paestum, Naples, Ischia, Montepertuso/Nocelle, Path of the Gods, Solfatara, Caserta, Cassino ...

Hope this helps ...

I would day trip (via SITA bus) to Amalfi, Ravello and Positano for walking around and shopping. A day in Pompeii is a must. Capri is also beautiful, if the boats are running and the weather cooperates.

And of course, you have chosen Praiano as your base, so enjoy the people, restaurants, and sunsets of that town.

I do not want to throw cold water on your plans but March may not be the ideal time for the Amalfi Coast. It is basically a summer resort and the weather may not be the best.

Additionally, as has been said the ferries do not run in rough water and so transportation to Capri or other places may be more difficult.

Finally, I wonder wheter all teh stores and restaurants will be opne. many will probably be closed for the season.

If possible delay your trip until May or June

neverbeen, did you get a confirmation at the Onda Verde? When I was in Positano last March the OV looked like it was still closed for the winter. If you have good weather it will be lovely, it is right above the sea and has private swimming areas. March is a little iffy though, I had cool weather when I was there and no one was near the water.

neverbeen,
I was there last March and was able to travel by Ferry from Sorrento to Naples, Naples to Ischia, Ischia to Procida, and back to Sorrento.
There were some instances of rough seas, not every day, and I saw some seasickness, but the Ferries were running. There are also Hydrofoils, smaller and faster, and these might have delays from rough seas. I also found many if not all, restaurants open for business. This was in the third week of March.
Don't know if the Onde Verde was open, but another place just up the road was open.

Hi never,

We did a week in Praiano in Oct, 2003. You might find my report helpful.

Weather in March can be variable. I would not expect being able to swim along the AC anywhere unless you're one of those "vikings" who like cold cold water, but you can enjoy the area even if you're not planning to swim at all. In spite of this, you can get beautyful clear days by the end of March (great for photos), not all of the tourists crowds, and, don't worry, hotels and restaurants will be open by then (Easter comes earlier this year!!!), and you might have problems with hydrofoils not running only if sea is really rough, and mostly in Positano...
