Amalfi coast itinerary - 10 days

I have read lots of posts on this subject and Rick Steve's book but still like to get opinions from Fodorites who are familiar with these destinations. We had to switch from Croatia to the Amalfi coast for our annual family trip so finding the 'right' accommodation has been a little challenging! In any case, I have made some refundable reservations so this is what the trip is shaping up to be:

Sept 14th - Arrive in Barcelona from Boston ( Got a really good fare so couldn't resist!)

Sept 15th or 16th - Leave for Naples Either 2 nights in barcelona (we have been before) or 1 night in Barcelona (2 days) and an overnight in Naples.

Sept 16th - Take a private taxi from Naples to the Amalfi coast with a stop in Pompeii.
Are there any car rental places in any of the Amalfi coast towns in case we want to rent a car for a couple of days to drive the short distances to the nearby towns?

Sept 16-20th - Either Priano, Postitano or Amalfo for 4 nights. Have booked Hotel Pellegrino which has very good reviews but an a little unsure about being in Praiano v/s Positano or Amalfi. Definitely want a seaview and not want too many stairs so those are limiting factors! Please help!
These are the hotel options:
1. https://hotelpellegrino.it/ Looks lovely but on the main road and in Praiano.
2. https://www.booking.com/hotel/it/serena-amalfi.html Apt a little far from Amalfi
3. https://www.labussolahotel.it/home-page-2/ Not sure about this on because of its location. Easy to reach but the area seems too crowded?
4. https://www.booking.com/hotel/it/apa...iew.en-us.html Amazing view but lots of steps! Could maybe do it for a couple of days but not sure about 4!
5. Also got an email from Casa Nilde who I had emailed, saying they have a newly acquired 2 BR unit with a seaview on Via Pasitea 240, it is not on their website yet. Rate is 400 euros without breakfast.
Opinions?

Sept 20-22nd - Capri Have booked an apt on booking.com. but would also love a hotel with a pool so still looking to see if we can find something that works.

Sept 22-24th -Now this is what I'm not sure about.
I was thinking of 2 nights in Ravello but I'm wondering if we should just do 5 days in the first destination, doing day trips and then the 2 nights in Capri. I do feel that you do not really get the feel of a place and area unless you stay overnight and I don't mind switching hotels but we are not planning to rent a car so may get cumbersome with luggage etc. And I am not so great with steps. Option for Ravello:

That still leaves us 2 nights at the end since DD has to fly out on the 26th. Then DH & I have a few extra days until the 30th that we need to decide on a non Amalfi coast destination. I have been a little daring and not bought return tickets yet so still have to figure that out!! Luckily, we have pretty reasonable flights to Boston from Paris or London if nothing else works.

We usually like to do something a little off the beaten path for a night or two but I don't know if there are any "hidden" gems in these parts! Looking for suggestions on a slightly less typical place to visit before DD leaves. And we can always skip the nights in Ravello if need be. We usually like scenic beauty - top priority, good restaurants, beaches, pools.
Was considering Ischia but not sure if it would be just more of the same, rather similar, experience. Maybe rent a car and go to the other coast of Italy - Bari, Puglia etc?

Would love to hear from people about places that they absolutely fell in love with! And on everything else above!! Sorry for the loong post.

If you are only working with a night or two, then Ravello, Naples, or Ischia would work well. Just south of Salerno is Cilento park, which has some nice towns and beaches, and would put you close to the impressive Greek temples at Paestum.
If you move it up to at least three nights, then you could do something like Matera or Maratea in Basilicata.

Ravello is tiny - I'd just stay put in coastal base - relocating always a hassle. If looking for nice hike I walked from Amalfi to Ravello up thru vineyards. Consider staying a few days perhaps in Salerno - day trip to Paestum and Caserta - famous Versailles-like palace easy to reach by train- Ischia to me was yes a lot like Capri but has things on it that are really interesting - I'd consider an extra day in Capri and daytrip to Ischia.

Your call! FWIW, the view from my room in Ravello, day or night, remains among the most glorious memories of my many travels. To me, that was WELL worth the inconvenience of relocating. YMMV.

Thanks for the suggestions, will look farthur into the places mentioned above. Kja it's wonderful you got to experience that, that memory is what I am looking for!

Would also appreciate any input about some of the accommodations. Not having been there, it is hard to imagine how much of an annoyance it could be to have something a little far from Amalfi such as the Serena (Option 2), or how crowded/noisy it would be at Hotel Bussola (Option 3) for example.
Or should I stick with the Hotel Pellegrino which I like the look of, even though it is not in aAmalfi or Positano, my original choices.
Thanks!

I don't know the places you mention, but even if I did, I'm sorry to say that I wouldn't answer -- people's reactions to places are very different, and I, personally, wouldn't want be the one to give whatever information would make you choose, because NO place is perfect. So sorry, and with my apologies, I think that YOU need to make a choice.

Hi! My husband and I are doing a similar trip in September. Have you ever considered staying in Atrani? It’s a superb of Amalfi and only a ten minute walk away from Amalfi. We have rented a very nice apartment at a very good price. Also if you like scenic walks you should check out the “Path of the Gods” while on the coast.

Hotel Pellegrino is one of my favorite places in the world! You won't regret staying there. You can jump on the bus that stops in front of the hotel and go anywhere on the Amalfi Coast.

Hi BarbaraAllison7911, yes, Atrani would be great too, but I am not able to find anything that works for us available for our dates. Glad you have a nice apt, I am sure you will have an amazing trip! When is Sept are you going to be there? And please share the website or details of yr apt if you don't mind so I can check that as well. Thanks!

Aneeby, delighted to find someone who has stayed at Hotel Pellegrino! Was the location fine? And was there any noise from the road? Hope it's OK if I PM you asking for some details.:)

Hi!

We will be in Atrani from the 15 Sep to 23 Sep. The website for the apartment is:

Dolcevitainamalfi - Holiday apartments for rent on Amalfi coast.

The website is old with outdated prices, but just email him at the provided email address and he will provide the rates. Antonio, the owner, was very easy to work with. We are looking forward to our stay as ithe apartment has a small kitchenette with a patio with a fabulous view and more cost effective than a hotel!

BarbaraAllison7911 Jul 23rd, 2018 09:09 AM

Hi.....I forgot he has five apartments that are similar!

excited_confused Jul 23rd, 2018 07:57 PM

Looks lovely! Just curious, how did you find this website? I keep feeling that there must be other places to check besides those those I see on tripadvisor, airbnb etc.

BarbaraAllison7911 Jul 24th, 2018 04:17 AM

Hi!

Actually, originally I did an inquiry on the following rental on HomeAway:
https://www.homeaway.ca/cottage-rent...4#reviewsPage2

When the owner replied he said this apartment was already rented but he had four others. So he sent me the website that I first included in my reply to your thread. We rented the “Jade” apartment. It is perfect for us. He also said he had another apartment not listed on the above website “the Coral Apartment”, and my sister took that one. So all worked out for us!
