Amalfi Coast - Is air conditioning needed?
Hi All,
I have had my trip to Italy this summer planned for months, but now I am getting wiggly on my hotel choices in the AC.
We will be on the Amalfi Coast for 4 days 26-30 August, specifically in Amalfi. I just found a cute little apartment and I am thinking "maybe", but it doesn't have A/C. Do you think I would be crazy to rent it?
I just sent an email to the owners to see if it has fans. For context, we live in NYC and are travelling with friends. And we are all in our early 30s.
Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Sally

Hi Sally,
I was visiting last Sept and the humidity was horrible for someone who lives in a desert climate. For you, it might seem just a bit more than normal.
The big problem is MOSQUITOES!! There are no screens on the windows and they have very nasty, tiny mosquitoes. Ate me alive. I would want A/C just so I could sleep with the windows/French doors closed. Take bug spray for daytime.
Buon viaggio!

Hi S,
In late August you might be able to get away with fans, if you are up high enough and the winds are right.
Expect to stay up late, until your room cools down. This is, after all, what people have been doing ever since the early Roman aristocracy began going to the AC for the Summer.
