Amalfi coast in the spring
My husband and I are planning a trip for spring 2005. Ideally we would travel in March or April, but we could travel as late as May. If we have our hearts set on the Amalfi Coast, will we be disappointed if we go in the early spring? Is there a real difference between April and May? If so, what? Also, what are other destination suggestions?

Ditto for May. this is an area where the weather really does matter - much of what youwant to do/see is outdoors - and the better the weather the more you will enjoy.

Hi, we travelled there this year in mid- to late-April. Was a bit chillier than we would have preferred, and weather overcast many days, but still beautiful. The locals said this was the worst April for weather that they'd had in years. Based upon that experience, even if it was an aberration, I'd also vote for as late as possible in April or in early May. But either way, I don't think you could be disappointed by the coast! We have some amazing pictures with the clouds, and still had an amazing time.

There was unusually a lot of rain in April of this year and I would recommend that you travel here in May for almost perfect conditions

Thanks to you all. And May it is! I can't wait!

The only time I've been on the Amalfi coast was late March. A woman from New York, now living in Sorrento, told us the locals call March "the crazy month" due to the unpredictability of the weather. We had a rain and windstorm in Sorrento the night we were there and an intense cloudburst the next day in Amalfi but it was still a wonderful experience.
