Amalfi Coast in December ??

We would appreciate any experiences or suggestions for the Amalfi Coast in December

We are planning to explore Pompeii and Paestum between Christmas and New Years.

Our plan had been to stay in a small town on the Amalfi Coast, possibly Positano, because it looks so beautiful and interesting.

But, we are having trouble finding hotels, B&Bs or villas open in December. Any suggestions? We had initially focussed on small hotels and B&Bs for a more intimate experience with the community. But, all are closed for December.

Hi Brit - The Positano tourist office website lists several hotels/B&B's open in December. Here's the link:

Otherwise you could consider Amalfi -

- or Sorrento

Hope this helps ...

Just got back from a week basing in Sorrento and day tripping from there, and I would highly recommend it as a base, particularly at the Christmas season (we have seen pictures of the main square at Christmas, and it is beautiful!). I don't think it is quite as subject to seasonal closings as the rest of the coast and should have a bit more going on in terms of nightlife (even if nightlife is just strolling the beautiful streets and shopping at 10 pm).

Perfect!!

That is great information.

Thank you so much
