Amalfi coast in august

Hi, Hubby and I will be traveling to the Amalfi Coast in August, staying in Sorrento. This is our first trip to Italy so looking for day trips and help with transportation in the area. Would like day trip ideas for one day in Naples, but the rest of the time we would love to stay in the smaller towns.
What should we NOT miss, and what should we avoid? What is the easiest way to get around-ferries or train? Any tips on saving money on transportation? Any hikes we should do for sure? We love to be outside but also want to see the history/museums in the area. Restaurants close by that are affordable?
Any tips/advice GREATLY appreciated!

No trains on the Amalfi coast (Sorrento isn't actually on the Amalfi coast). If you want to reach towns on the Amalfi coast from Sorrento you have the option of bus or ferry (ferries only put in to a couple of towns like Amalfi and Positano).

Between Naples and Sorrento is the commuter train line Circumvesuviana which runs very 30 minutes (Pompeii and Herculaneum are about halfway between). It's about 4€ one way Naples/Sorrento.

Ferry from Sorrento to Positano or Amalfi (see www.capri.net for schedule). Note that ferries between Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast are very limited. Buses in August are impossible.

You can ferry from Positano or Amalfi to other smaller villages like Cetara, Minori, etc. www.travelmar.it for those ferry schedules.

If you want to see Ravello, you take a bus or taxi from Amalfi up to Ravello.

A good guidebook will assist with what to do and see in the area, along with hikes.
