Gilly, La Residenza del Duca's website says "each room has a balcony" - http://www.residencedelduca.it/eng/storia.htm.

Thanks Caroline - odd, when I looked at the actual rooms, they didn't appear to have balconies...
Sail4life - I will check out your recommendation also...
Thanks again everyone!

I recommend Amalfi for a real Italy feel. Easy to get to by train from Salerno, main bus/ferry hub for trips to Ravello, Positano, Maiori, Minori, Atrani. Every time we walked through the "wall" into the main square it took our breath away and we snapped yet another picture of the exact same thing. Our all-time favourite hotel (Hotel Floridiana) has no sea view or balcony so it wouldn't suit you but it is our most enjoyable memory of all our trips. A lovely afternoon siesta looking out the window at the orange trees, listening to people talking and whistling, children playing, birds singing (Italian of course), roosters crowing, dogs barking and the church bells every 15 minutes; priceless.

Gilly, you are correct. Wherever you stay on the Amalfi Coast will be great. There is no such thing as a bad view when your on the coast, so do not stress out about which is the BEST. Even if you stayed in Positano, you could be a 30min walk to the main area which is a bit more "touristy", but still feel far enough away to relax and enjoy the world going by.
