One thing I've found to be helpful with difficult roads is actually to get right behind a bus...and let it kind of plow the way for me.
We only used the SITA buses to get around on the AC, but I found the road did not scare me as much as I thought it would - and I have a thing about heights. I'd probably be game for driving there, but maybe not in the peak of summer (as much for the parking as for the driving). I also thought it seemed more crowded on the weekend days. bellastar - I agree, the SITA drivers are very good. And three months after being there, I can still hear in my head that distinctive horn they sound every time they go around a corner. Your comments about the tour buses made me laugh. Shortly after we were there, I went on an organized tour in eastern Europe, and our driver was Italian. I asked him how he liked taking his bus on the AC road, and he just rolled his eyes. But then he added - you know, it's the German drivers who knock the mirrors off their buses on that road. Nothing like a little friendly competition... |
