we plan on spending a couple of days in the area of the AC in mid november. would a half day cruise of the coast be recommended? altho there are some expensive cruises available online, are there local boatmen who will take you out at cheaper prices? thanks!

At that time of year the water is often rough - and there may not be any scheduled ferries - or any ferries running. Not sure if I would go out in a boat at all - but then I get seasick.

Partly it depends on where you would get the boat from - larger towns might have a better chance of boats running.

The various scheduled services along the AC are likely to have ended by then, since the All Saints / Ognissanti weekend pretty much marks the end of when there's sufficient demand - and reliably good weather - to make them viable.

The Alicost line was probably the last to finish in 2010 and I've stuck their schedules together on this (but with no promises of what they'll be doing this year)....

Some hire boats may still be operating, but regulation and insurance issues have just about seen off any chance of getting a day out with a non-official boat owner!

If you still fancy a sea journey whilst in that general area, there are however year-round services between Naples and both Sorrento and Capri - and between the latter two places...

PS:

I guess it's worth pointing out that Sorrento, although not on the AC proper, makes a much better base for visiting Pompei and Herculaneum - and is very likely to have more places still open than most of the small towns and villages along the Amalfi side of the peninsula.
