Amalfi Coast: Conca dei Marini

Hi everybody,

My girlfriend and are are planning our trip to Amalfi Coast June 19-22. We just ordered the flights and are now looking for accommodations. So far, Airbnb seems to be a good option, since many hotels are booked and are more expensive.

But now for the real question: Is Conca dei Marini a good place to stay on the Amalfi Coast?

We have found what seems to be a beautiful little apartment there, but I wanted to ask all the experts in here first. Are we missing out on anything but not staying in Positano or Amalfi?

We'd love some sight seeing and some relaxing. Probably 50/50. That is, hanging on the beach some days and going on small trips and day trips other days.

We are considering the following citites:
- Conca dei Marini
- Amalfi
- Positano

Any advice is greatly appreciated (and I know this topic has been discussed at length).

It's a fairly central place on the AC, but very small. If all you want to do is relax then it's perfect and getting to Positano or Amalfi using the SITA bus should be OK in June, as although it will be getting busier for the summer, it won't be bursting at the seams yet.

I tend to prefer Positano as it has a greater choice of restaurants and places to stay and it's by far the most appealing of the villages. You need to decide what places you want to visit and base somewhere that gives you less travelling between sights.

I would not want to be in such a small town on the AC, unless all I wanted to do is relax on the beach. I also would not want to stay in a place where I had to rely on the SITA bus to get anywhere as they will be packed (and miserable for me) in late June.

You may likely find cheaper accomodations in Amalfi, although I prefer Positano for the selection of beaches, restaurants, nightlife, etc.

At this late date, availability may dictate where you can stay - most places on the AC have been booked for months.

I agree. Conca dei Marini is between Amalfi and Positano; it is lovely, but a bit off the beaten transport path unless you are near the main road.

I prefer Amalfi to Positano, but not all agree. I think it depends on what is available and the exact location within those towns. Make sure to see a map with an exact location before you book.

Agree about the buses...they are horridly crowded in season.

We stayed in Conca a dozen years ago (right on the coast road in the Belvedere) but we had a car & they had parking, so it worked (and the view was stunning!). I agree with the others, though. It is remote with nothing walkable, so restaurants, nightlife, beaches & general touristing is all a painful bus ride in one direction or the other. One night we paid an exorbitant €50 taxi fee to get back after dinner from Ravello because the buses had stopped for the evening.
