Amalfi Coast and then?? - looking for suggestions
We agreed to do a river tour in Germany next summer with friends. It leaves from Amsterdam June 17. I just used FF miles to book (330 days out) tx to Rome, arriving 5/31 as we had been wanting to see Southern Italy. I've been to Rome twice as well as Venice, Florence, Milan, Cinqueterra, and Lake Como and am not interested in repeating those places.
Tentatively, after arriving in Rome, I'd like to start South, spend a week in a villa with a terrace overlooking the sea on the Amalfi Coast (relax, hike, some sightseeing), see Pompeii, Vesuvius, Capri, ?Naples then start heading North or see other parts of Southern Italy arriving in Amsterdam on 6/16. (Also, no interest in touring Amsterdam again). Maybe some time in Belgium?
I'd appreciate suggestions for a villa on the Amalfi coast (including best town to base from) as well as what to do the week in-between Amalfi and Amsterdam. I'd prefer train travel over renting a car. Thanks.

what about switzerland?
an excellent destination for those who prefer rail travel.
june would be a lovely time to be there with snow still on the tops of the mountains and flowers in the meadows.
you can fly easyjet to Geneva and Basel from both Naples and Rome.
you can also fly from Geneva and Basel to amsterdam.

fb, look at Villa le Sirene in Positano. It is "only" 180 steps to the beach, very good location and has great reviews. I have rented the large apartment for myself and a group of friends for June 2012. I had a friend who lives on the AC stop by and check it out for me and he said it looks great.

Villa le Sirene indeed looks beautiful, but I am not willing to pay the extra $$ for a 3 bedroom for just my wife and I. Any suggestions for something similar but smaller?
As for the second week, we are thinking of flying to Brussels as my wife is of Flemish ancestry and we have never been there. All of your other suggestions have been great, but we have been to most of them (Italian lakes, Paris, Switzerland) and we would rather explore somewhere new this time. Any suggestions as to a Brussels to Amsterdam itinerary?
