amalfi coast
 

i am planning on being in the amalfi coast(thinking of positano,sorrento,amalfi) and want a charming hotel on the seaside or at least overlooking the sea that is not more than $250/night. any suggestions

We stayed right in the Marina Piccolo in Sorrento at the Hotel Il Faro and I would definitely classify it as charming and on the seaside. We had a wonderful little balconey that overlooked the water with Mt. Versuvius across the bay. It is down from the main piazza of Sorrento, but the walk down is beautiful and not at all bad. We usually took the bus up, but I don't think the walk up would have been that bad and we saw many people doing it. I think we paid about $150/night for the seaview room.

If you don't mind paying only about 100E/nite dbl w/bkfst, I can highly recommend the Le Sirene in Praiano.

I recommend Hotel Villa Rosa Positano (www.villarosapositano.it) is a small, romantic hotel. All rooms have their own terrace with spectacular views. Breakfast is included and is served on your terrace each morning. The hotel is in a terrific location within a few minutes walk of the beach. The cost in August was 150 Euros, which is well within your budget.

i greatly appreciate your input. now is the real task! well i will have a car and be doing a road trip from june 18-july 1 as follows. any hotel suggestions and restaurants, little bars would be greatly appreciated. will have a car(and enjoy driving) and have to do work while enjoying the cities as well(hence the time spent in various parts). would like to stay on the seaside (seaview) in amalficoast and south of france and wouldn't mind paying about $200-250 /night but the other places would like little charming eccentric places that dont cost more than $100(roughly). in paris i was told latin quarter or marais would be ideal. thanks for the info. june18/19 amalfi coast, 20 rome, 21,22,23, florence , 24 tuscany, 25 venice, 26 milan, 27 cotedazure, 28,29 piemonte, 30 milan, 1 paris. also, will have a full day layover in london.
