Where to stay in the coast. I have heard that Positano can be a bit toursity? Can anyone provide some help in the flavor of all the towns? Trying to decide what town to stay in for a trip we are planning at the end of April. What also has easy access to Capri as we will be staying there for 3 days. I know we can get a bus from town to town if we decide to go and explore.

There are so many posts here on that topic. I know because I, too, debated endlessly about where to base myself for the 5 nights I had on the Coast last spring.
My own opinion is that Positano is overwhelmingly touristy (and most of the tourists we saw in early May were Americans and British) ; I much preferred Amalfi, but you will get conflicting opinions here on this topic. Here is just one of many threads on the subject: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35122438 You can find more with a search... Amalfi has a good beach and also has a "life" of its own outside of tourism, or so it appeared to me. If you want even less touristy, you could consider Cetara where I visited several times but did not stay. If you are looking for a big beach, Maiori might fit--this is also more of a "real" town rather than a resort.. |
There are ferries from Amalfi to Capri and probably from Positano to Capri as well...

My favourite accomodation in Sorrento was Villa Rosa. Look at the website www.villarosasorrento.com
