Amalfi Coast

We want to spend two nights on the Amalfi Coast in Oct. Possibly Positano - - Any suggestions for something with a lot of Italian flavor, but yet reasonably priced?

We just stayed at Albergo California--great price, great location in Positano. Huge rooms with view of the sea. Maria was great--I'd highly suggest it.

I certainly liked the Villa Rosa in Positano. The Caldiero family is wonderful. 140 euro per night can't be beat. Be prepared to walk up 70 steps to get there, however.

We just returned from the AC, where we stayed at the Le Sirene in Praiano.

I second the Villa Rosa in Positano from Karen Brown's rec. It was wonderful with the huge balconey overlooking Positano.

Go to the little deli as you walk down to Positano and the lady there will fix you up with all types of magnificent goodies. At dark, sit on your big balconey, have wine dinner right there under all those stars.

Also, be sure to go to Capri and Ravella, etc. if you have the time along the Amalfi coast.

Thanks to all of you for youridea - - I think the steps might be aproblem at the Villa Rosa and also, we would like to consider Sorrento - - At which place is the best to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and dine on the wonderful food. Since we will have been traveling for quite a few hours, we also thought Sorrento might cut off an hour of time.

Positano is a city of stairs, so if that's a problem for you, Sorrento might be a better choice. We were in Sorrento this July, and stayed at Hotel Tramontano, which is only a few minutes from the main square ( Piazza Tasso) and less than that from the old town and it's wonderful restaurants, pizzerias, etc.

We booked seaview rooms, which had large terraces overlooking the Bay of Naples for about $250/night. Obviously, Sorrento offers a wide range of hotel choices, so if that's too pricey, check previous posts, and you're sure to find other recommendations.

Although Sorrento is much more Americanized than Positano, it does offer easier transportation connections to: Naples, Capri, Pompeii, and towns on the Amalfi Coast.

Good luck with your trip!
