Amalfi B&B - Residenza del Duca

Just starting to plan October trip to AC. Found Residenza del Duca on Slowtrav, many good reviews. Has anyone on Fodor's stayed here? Would like some first-hand opinions on the beds (any kings? hard or soft?), whether the balconies with some rooms actually have room to stand or sit and whether there are any fridges in the rooms. The room described as a junior suite doesn't appear to have any outdoor space, while the "Gisulfo II" which is listed as a superior room, seems to have a roof terrace. Would love to hear anyone's experience here. Thanks.

DH and I stayed at the Residenza del Duca this past winter, and it is great, but there are LOTS of steps.>

Another old review with trip report.

We stayed at Residenza del Duca last summer. Really lovely B&B. I write about it in my report:

kybourbon - thanks a lot for finding those. I had done a search and nothing came up. I thought surely someone here had stayed there.

yes, there are more than a hundred. However, I'm a longtime reader of this forum and was looking for feedback from the folks here.

I stayed in Amalfi last September, and can recommend Residenza Luce. We really enjoyed it. Friendly staff, good breakfast, and right in the middle of Amalfi. Oh, and FANTASTIC restaurant (L'Abside) run by the owner and his mamma! http://www.residenzaluce.it/

Jojonana:
Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if any of the rooms have king beds? a balcony or terrace?
I have emailed Residenza del Duca and am waiting for a response from them, but am still looking around.

We had a king bed if I remember correctly. Very comfy. We had a balcony with a view on the main street, just in front of the Basilica. Fabulous... In our pictures, you can see a part of the room and the view from one of our windows... http://jojomart.shutterfly.com/

Thanks. I did hear back from them and reserved Gisulfo but we don't have our plane tickets yet. I think the Residenza sounds like a great place to stay and didn't want to lose our chance to score what seems to be the only room with a balcony, which I know we'll use if there's any decent weather at all.
How much of a pain was it to get from Amalfi to Pompeii/Herculaneum? It looks like it takes a few hours which would make a really long day of any day trips in that direction.

I think your best bet might be to take a boat to Sorrento, and then the train to Pompeii...

The bus ride from Sorrento to Amalfi has some spectacular views, but it made me queasy and I usually am NEVER car sick! I would never ride the bus twice in the same day...

Hi there, we too stayed at Residenca Luce about 4 years ago. We had what was called a superior room with jacuzzi, which was a very nice split level room with a balcony and a great jacuzzi style bath. This is one of our fondest holiday memories...go for it!!!!
